Shares of Coinbase Global (COIN) fell 10.6% on Friday, October 30, 2026, while the S&P 500 lost 1.8%. The decline came the day after the company’s third-quarter earnings report on October 29. News reports linked the drop to a record theft at the crypto exchange Binance and to a weak trading quarter. Wall Street analysts also lowered their price targets after the results, Invezz reported. Robinhood Markets, one of Coinbase’s peers, fell 7.2% during the same session. So how weak was Coinbase’s trading quarter?

Coinbase’s Sales Held Flat As Crypto Trading Slowed

Coinbase generated $1.22 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2026, about the same as its second-quarter performance but 35.0% below the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue was in line with analyst expectations, and news reports put earnings at $0.28 per share, against an expected loss of $0.16 per share.

During the October 29 call, management said overall crypto spot trading volume fell 10% from the second quarter. Growth in prediction markets, a product Coinbase launched in February, offset that decline, management said, noting that prediction markets passed an annualized revenue rate of $200 million during the quarter.

Not all of Coinbase’s revenue comes from trading. Subscription services brought in roughly 49% of total revenue in the quarter, management said.

Did Coinbase’s Peers Fall Too?

Some industry peers also fell. Bakkt lost 8.7% in the same session, while PayPal and CME Group rose. News reports on October 30 put the Binance theft at $6.3 billion and said the incident, along with the weak trading quarter, was pulling crypto stocks lower.

Financial stocks as a whole fell far less. XLF, the fund that tracks the financial sector Coinbase belongs to, lost 0.8% that session. Coinbase moved with Robinhood and Bakkt rather than the wider financial sector.

Coinbase Nears A One-Year Low After A Rare Drop

Over the prior 365 days, Coinbase had fallen this much in a single session just once before, dropping 13.3% on February 5, 2026. The stock’s latest move of this size in either direction was an 11.7% rise on September 18, 2026.

The October 30 close of $143.54 sits just above the stock’s lowest close of the past year, which was $141.09 on February 12, 2026. Its highest close in that time was $343.78 on October 31, 2025. Measured from the October 29, 2025 close, just before that window, the shares have lost 58.8%, while the S&P 500 has returned 11.3%. More recently, the shares lost 24.2% from October 1 to October 30, against a 1.1% fall for the S&P 500.

In the third quarter, prediction markets and derivatives made up about 25% of transaction revenue, the portion of Coinbase’s sales that comes from trading, management said. Coinbase is expected to report its fourth-quarter results in February 2027, and its transaction revenue is the measure to watch.
