Cameco (CCJ) stock fell 7.9% on Friday, October 30, 2026, while the S&P 500 lost 1.8%. The decline occurred on the day Cameco reported its third-quarter results, during a session when all five companies on its peer list also fell between 4.4% and 6.8%. Management said the results were largely in line with what it had expected. So what did the quarter actually show?

Cameco’s Gross Margin Fell During A Planned Mill Outage
While revenue for the third quarter of 2026 was 0.7% higher than a year earlier, Cameco kept less of each dollar after production costs. Gross margin, the share of sales left after the cost of producing them, declined to 19.7% from 27.7% the prior year.
Management said results for the quarter were lower than a year earlier, and that this decline was expected. The company pointed to a longer planned maintenance outage at the Key Lake mill, which brought lower production volumes and higher costs in the quarter.
Management also adjusted its 2026 outlook as the year nears its end, narrowing the range for annual uranium deliveries to 29.5 million to 30.5 million pounds. With its operational guidance changes, the company now expects higher administrative costs and higher average unit costs of sales for the year.
Did Cameco Fall Alone Or With Peers?
Cameco dropped alongside its peers and recorded the steepest loss of the group. All five companies on its Trefis peer list fell during the session, ranging from a 4.4% decline for NexGen Energy to a 6.8% drop for Denison Mines.
Energy stocks broadly moved in the opposite direction. The SPDR energy sector fund (XLE), which tracks Cameco’s sector, rose 1.9% while the S&P 500 fell. The session’s decline was shared across Cameco’s peer group, rather than the wider energy sector.
Where Does Cameco Stock Stand Now?
A decline of this magnitude is unusual for Cameco. Over the 365 days prior to this session, the stock fell this much or more on two days, most recently dropping 9.3% on June 5, 2026.
The latest drop left Cameco at $76.91, its lowest close of the past year, compared with a high close of $134.09 on January 28, 2026. Over the past twelve months the stock has lost 27.7%, while the S&P 500 returned 11.3%. All of that loss, and more, came after May 1, 2026: since then the shares are down 36.2%.
Cameco’s next report covers its fourth quarter of 2026. Gross margin is the figure to watch, given the higher unit costs management now expects for the year.
