Shares of AppLovin (APP) fell 10.4% on Friday, October 30, 2026, while the S&P 500 lost 1.8%. The company released no announcements, earnings reports, or filings. News reports indicated U.S. stocks fell that day as a selloff in artificial-intelligence stocks deepened after disappointing earnings reports from Amazon and Intel. How much does AppLovin’s own business depend on computing power?

AppLovin’s Ad Models Run On Computing Power
AppLovin generates higher sales when its advertising models improve, a process that relies on computing power for training. Gaming still accounts for the majority of the company’s revenue. During an August 5, 2026 call, management identified model performance as the single biggest driver of growth in that segment: when the models improve, advertisers can increase their spending and still earn their targeted returns.
That computing power comes at a rising cost. Management noted that higher computing expenses for training both current and new models were the main reason AppLovin’s costs rose from the first quarter of 2026 to the second. The company spends about $0.10 on computing for each extra dollar of revenue. Furthermore, the higher cost of training and running its models is already built into its guidance for the third quarter.
Did AppLovin Fall Alone?
No. Every company on AppLovin’s Trefis peer list fell during the same session: Unity Software, Trade Desk, Meta Platforms, Digital Turbine and Magnite. Digital Turbine dropped 16.1%, a steeper decline than AppLovin, while Meta Platforms fell 1.5%. Trade Desk lost 5.9%, Magnite declined 4.2% and Unity Software fell 4.0%. AppLovin’s drop was far larger than the 1.3% fall in XLC, the SPDR fund for its communication services sector.
Where Does AppLovin Stock Stand Now?
AppLovin closed at $228.50 on October 30, marking its lowest close of the past year, compared with a high close of $733.60 on December 22, 2025. Over the past 12 months, the stock lost 63.8%, while the S&P 500 returned 11.3%. The slide picked up from August: since August 3, 2026, AppLovin has lost 43.7% while the S&P 500 was flat. Since October 1 alone, it has fallen 18.8%.
A drop of this size is not new for AppLovin. The stock recorded six falls at least this large in the prior 365 days. The latest occurred on August 6, 2026, the day after its second-quarter call, when shares dropped 19.7%.
At the October 30 close, AppLovin traded at 11.2 times its sales over the twelve months to June 2026, compared with 3.2 times for the S&P 500. AppLovin is due to report its third-quarter 2026 results on November 4, 2026.
