Vertiv (VRT), the maker of power and cooling systems for data centers, climbed 16.5% on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, outpacing the S&P 500’s 0.3% gain. The advance followed the release of Vertiv’s third-quarter 2026 results. So how strong was Vertiv’s quarter, and what did management say about the rest of the year?

Vertiv Beat Estimates And Raised Its 2026 Outlook
The company easily cleared analyst expectations for both revenue and earnings. Adjusted earnings per share reached $2.21, topping the $1.82 estimate. Revenue totaled $4.31 billion, beating the $3.75 billion estimate, and management said $100 million to $150 million of those sales had been delayed from the second quarter.
Management said customers place orders 12 to 18 months in advance, providing a window into future sales. Vertiv’s organic orders, which exclude acquisitions, increased more than 100% from a year earlier. Management also said it does not plan to share orders figures from now on, so the third-quarter 2026 figure may be the last such number you get.
Management raised its full-year 2026 guidance across all key metrics. The company now expects net sales of $14.7 billion at the midpoint, up $650 million from its earlier guidance, and said on the call that data center demand is accelerating. News reports on October 28 linked the stock’s jump to the results.
Did Eaton, Emerson And nVent Rise With Vertiv?
Eaton, Emerson Electric and nVent Electric, the three peers on the Trefis list for Vertiv, all advanced during the session, but by far less. nVent Electric gained 4.2%, Eaton rose 2.3% and Emerson Electric added 0.9%. The SPDR fund for industrial stocks (XLI) climbed 0.3%, in line with the S&P 500. The peers and the sector fund all posted much smaller gains, so most of Vertiv’s gain was specific to the company.
Where Does Vertiv Stock Stand After The Jump?
Such a large one-day jump is rare for Vertiv. Over the 365 days before the session, the stock posted a gain of at least this magnitude only once: on February 11, 2026, when the stock gained 25%. The most recent move of this size in either direction was a 17.3% fall on July 29, 2026.
Vertiv returned 26.1% over the 12 months to October 28, compared to 14.0% for the S&P 500. The path was uneven. The stock reached its lowest close in that year at $149.83 on December 17, 2025, and its highest was $376.23 on May 14, 2026. Over the six months to October 28, the shares lost 20.6% while the S&P 500 returned 9.1%, and they closed the session well below that May high.
Vertiv is expected to report its fourth-quarter 2026 results in February 2027. Net sales for that quarter are the figure to watch, with management guiding to about $4.4 billion at the midpoint.
