Roblox (RBLX) stock fell 62.0% in the year to October 30, 2026, against a 12.4% return for the S&P 500. The latest decline occurred on October 30, the day after the company’s third-quarter report, when shares dropped 18.1%. Even after that drop, the shares closed at $42.99, holding above their August 12 low of $35.54. The share price now appears to assume Roblox’s rapid growth has ended: fewer daily players and continually slowing sales growth. How much of that did the report show?

Fewer People Play Roblox Daily Than A Year Ago
The report showed fewer people playing. The company said on October 29 that Roblox averaged 138 million daily users in the third quarter of 2026, down 9% from a year earlier. The hours those users spent on the platform fell 15% to 34 billion.
Management pointed to a 12% rise in daily users from the second quarter, but the total remained lower than a year earlier. News reports tied the October 30 fall to weaker user engagement.
Roblox’s Revenue Growth Has Slowed For Four Quarters
Revenue has continued to grow, but at a slower pace every quarter. Roblox reported $1.57 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2026, up 15.6% from a year earlier. Revenue had grown 48.0% in the third quarter of 2025, and that growth rate has come in lower in each of the four quarters since.
Management expects spending on the platform to shrink in the fourth quarter. On the October 29 call, it said pressure on what users spend continued in the third quarter, particularly among younger users. Management guided fourth-quarter bookings to fall 10% to 15% from a year earlier, adding that the guidance does not assume a short-term improvement in spending per user.
Roblox’s Margins Held Up Through The Fall
Roblox’s margins improved over the year, even though investors now pay far less for each dollar of its sales. The shares traded at 5.1 times sales at the end of September 2026, down from 21.6 times a year earlier and the lowest of 23 quarter ends since early 2021. Roblox still runs at a loss, but a narrower one. Its operating loss was 18.0% of revenue in the third quarter of 2026, against 21.8% in the third quarter of 2025.
Roblox keeps slightly more of each sale than it did a year ago. Its gross margin was 79.8% in the third quarter of 2026, against 78.2% in the third quarter of 2025. The company also still holds more cash than debt, sitting on $3.2 billion of cash and short-term investments against $1.91 billion of debt at September 30. Management expects higher infrastructure spending on AI projects such as Build and Roblox Reality in the fourth quarter, so the operating margin is the figure to watch when Roblox reports in February 2027.

There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
