Restaurant Brands International’s (RBI) recent earnings were impressive to say the least, given the environment of economic uncertainty, and the struggling restaurant industry weighed down by the fast casual segment. The growth in the top line at RBI primarily came from Tim Hortons (+7% y-o-y), although Burger King (+1% y-o-y) also saw its revenues increase. This is noteworthy, given the sustained drop in revenue at both McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. The expansion plans of TH in Canada and internationally, and a Burger King master franchise joint venture in Brazil will likely help increase the store count at a much faster rate than now. Further, product innovation in the form of shawarma and falafel wraps and Bacon King could also propel the company’s average revenue per store higher. As a result, we are fairly optimistic about the company and have revised our price estimate of RBI upwards.
