What Was The Share Of Major European Investment Banks In Global Equity Underwriting For Q2 2016?
The five largest European investment banks saw a notable jump in their equity capital market standings for Q2 thanks to a particularly sharp recovery in deal volumes in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region. [1] Total equity underwriting deal volumes in EMEA swelled from $28 billion in Q1 2016 to $59.8 billion in Q2 2016 – in turn helping European investment banks increase their share of the global equity capital market from under 14% in Q1 to almost 20% in Q2
Equity underwriting volumes for individual banks were taken from Thomson Reuters’ latest investment banking league tables. It should be noted that the largest equity capital market deals (IPOs and FPOs) employ more than one investment bank, so the market share figures are not exclusive.
Notably, UBS fell to the fourth spot among these banks after reporting the largest market share among all European banks in the first quarter. In fact, the bank also ranked #1 among European banks for full-year 2015 with a healthy market share of 6%.
