Rocket Lab Fell First In A Post-Election Sell-Off

Rocket Lab stock dropped on November 5 as a post-election sell-off in technology stocks spread to fast-growing companies in other sectors. Chipmakers and construction firms tied to AI data centers were hit especially hard by fears of more scrutiny and possible construction moratoriums. Although Rocket Lab is not an AI company, it was caught in the spillover.

While Rocket Lab is a fast-growing business, it does not yet make a profit. It launches rockets such as Electron and builds satellites in its Space Systems segment, which brought in $189.5 million of its $234 million in second-quarter 2026 revenue. Total revenue that quarter rose 62.0% from a year earlier, but the company posted an operating loss equal to 24.6% of revenue.

Friday’s gain more than erased the Thursday fall, and the stock closed above where it had ended on November 4. The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.1% on Friday.

Did Rocket Lab Rise Alone?

No. Rocket Lab climbed with two of the five companies on its peer list. Redwire gained 16.5% the same session, and Planet Labs rose 10.4%. Redwire had reported a narrower third-quarter loss than estimates, with revenue below forecasts, after the close on November 4, and its shares fell 19.8% on November 5.

The other three peers, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and L3Harris Technologies, each moved 1.6% or less. XLI, the SPDR fund for the industrial sector, rose 0.1%, against 0.3% for the S&P 500. Rocket Lab moved with Redwire and Planet Labs, not with its other three peers or the industrial sector as a whole.

Where Does Rocket Lab Stock Stand Now?

An advance like Friday’s is rare for Rocket Lab. The stock gained this much or more on three sessions in the prior 365 days, most recently climbing 15.9% on June 29, 2026.

Even so, Rocket Lab stock is down 5.9% over the past 12 months, against a 9.8% gain for the S&P 500. Its Friday close of $53.07 sits far below its 52-week closing high of $150.23, set on May 27, 2026. The lowest close in that time was $39.48 on November 20, 2025. The shares lost 49.7% over the past six months, and they were still down 22.4% over the past month after Friday’s gain.

Investors pay a high price for Rocket Lab’s revenue growth. The stock trades at 43.4 times its sales over the past twelve months, against 3.1 times for the S&P 500.

Rocket Lab reports its third-quarter 2026 results on Monday, November 9. Revenue, which management guided to $250 million to $265 million on its August 10, 2026 call, is the figure to watch.
