Should You Buy Reddit Stock Because Its Renewal Risk Is Already Priced In?

Reddit (RDDT) stock closed 9.3% higher on Wednesday at $158.10, and the news behind it came from a research desk rather than from Reddit. The argument was that the worst outcome for two of its data licensing contracts is already in the price. That put a price on the cheaper half of Reddit’s AI question. The expensive half is untouched.

Reddit Jumped On A Note About Its Two Licensing Deals

The size of the move belonged to Reddit alone. The S&P 500 gained 0.4% over the same window and Meta Platforms (META) 2.5%, while Pinterest (PINS) ended 0.1% lower, so this was not a rally that swept up everything social. Baird’s note said the market has already discounted the worst outcome for Reddit’s two AI data licensing agreements, both of which come up for renewal in 2027. No new business figure arrived with it. What repriced was a fear.

But Reddit Has A Second AI Problem That The Note Left Alone

Licensing is not where Reddit earns. Advertising brought in $762 million of the $805 million of revenue in Q2 2026, about 95% of the total, and revenue has now grown at over 60% for an eighth consecutive quarter. Management’s own line on the renewals is that the range of outcomes is wide and the deals are not binary, since Reddit’s content gets used for training, for grounding and as a search index.

The harder problem sits on the other side of that trade. The AI systems buying Reddit’s conversations are the same ones changing how people find them. By management’s own account, AI Overviews has yet to deliver what ten blue links did, and a decline in search referrals cancelled out the daily users its product work added. As of Q2 2026 Reddit’s own visibility into that referral traffic was low. The note repriced the contracts. It left the traffic alone.

So What Are You Actually Betting On At This Price?

Reddit carries about $30 billion of market value on $2.78 billion of revenue over the past twelve months. Even after Wednesday, the stock trades about 42% below its 52-week high of $270.71 and about 30% above its 52-week low of $121.84. The gap to the high prices something more awkward than a renewal: whether Reddit can build a direct audience faster than search takes one away. Reddit reaches over half a billion people a week and more than 130 million a day, against a goal of 1 billion daily users globally.

That daily figure is the one to follow, because the direct users inside it are the part Reddit controls. An analyst note can lift the price in a session and leave that daily figure exactly where it stood.
