Microsoft Launches Windows Server 8 Beta
Following the public launch of the Windows 8 Consumer Preview last week, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) launched the beta version of Windows Server 8, the latest version of its server OS offering. The company first announced about the new product in September 2011. [1] Windows Server 8 will offer a number of new features and improvements compared to Windows Server 2008 R2, which was launched in 2009. Windows Server 8 will offer a series of improvements related to virtualization capabilities with Hyper-V and better recovery and availability features. It will also improve support for multi-machine management and server automation. It will also offer .NET Framework 4.5 and IIS 8 web server to build and deploy server and web applications with better performance, security and scalability. Microsoft is also offering free downloads of its Windows Server 8 beta version for testing and development purposes.
Microsoft controls a major portion of the global server market, which is set to expand rapidly in the coming years.
