Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) is the leader in the prostate cancer hormonal therapy market, with Zytiga sales of $3.5 billion in 2018. Other key drugs include Astellas’ Xtandi, and AbbVie’s Lupron. However, Zytiga could see a sharp decline in sales over the next few years, as it will face biosimilar competition. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit rejected a request by Johnson & Johnson for a temporary restraining order blocking sales of generic versions of Zytiga in November 2018.   • Zytiga’s share declined slightly from 40% to 39% during the same period, and it could decline to 25% over the next few years, as it could see its sales decline amid patent expiry.
  • Zytiga is facing generic competition in 2019. Xtandi’s market exclusivity period ends in 2027 while that of Lupron will end in 2019.
