JetBlue Corporation (NYSE:JBLU) reported improvement in almost all of its key metrics in the first month of the year 2017. The carrier grew its capacity at a rate of 7.7% y-o-y, and has also trimmed its capacity guidance for the first quarter of 2017. Further, the capacity was being used efficiently as indicated by the 70 bps gain in the load factor in the month. In terms of traffic, revenue passenger miles were up 8.6% y-o-y and passengers boarded increased 11.6% y-o-y in January.

However, the company’s unit revenues declined -8.5% y-o-y in January, despite the headwinds in the industry dissipating and close-in yields actually improving. The company attributed 5 percentage points of this decline to holiday placement and the impact of winter weather last year.
