Shares of Eaton (ETN) climbed 7.0% on November 3, 2026, the day the company reported Q3 FY2026 results, outpacing a 0.37% gain for the S&P 500. That rally failed to hold. The stock fell 9.9% on November 4 and 7.4% on November 5, during a broad sell-off in data center stocks after the midterm election results. By the November 5 close, the stock sat 10.7% below its last close before the report, compared to a 2.5% fall for the broader index. Eaton expanded its revenue faster in that quarter than in any earlier quarter of 2026. But how much of that growth is reaching the profit Eaton reports?

Eaton’s Reported Profit Grew Far Slower Than Revenue
The bottom line is capturing much less than the sales figures suggest. Eaton generated $8.95 billion in revenue during Q3 FY2026, marking a 28% increase from a year earlier, while its reported net income rose about 7%. Over the same year, the company’s reported operating margin fell to 17.8% from 19.6%.
Revenue provided the larger surprise by topping the consensus estimate by 4.1%, while adjusted earnings per share beat expectations by a smaller margin. The stock also outpaced peers on the day of the report, clearing the 3.6% gain posted by Hubbell, the strongest of three peers. Power and data center stocks rallied broadly that day after a Bernstein research call, with GE Vernova up 7% and Vertiv up 5%.
Has Eaton’s Profit Lagged Its Sales For A Year?
Based on the reported figures, it has. Eaton increased its revenue by 20.1% over the twelve months to September 30, 2026, compared to the year before. Reported earnings per share over those months reached $10.01, against $10.00 a year earlier. The operating margin rose from one quarter to the next in the second and third quarters of 2026, but it remains below where it stood a year ago.
Management’s new forecasts raise growth and adjusted profit, not reported profit. The company lifted its 2026 forecast for organic sales growth alongside its projection for adjusted EPS, a metric that leaves out charges for intangible asset amortization and for acquisitions and divestitures. That adjusted EPS midpoint moved to $13.75, up from $13.50 in the July 31 release. The forecast for reported EPS moved slightly the other way, slipping to $10.44 at the midpoint from $10.46.
Management called the $3.68 in Q3 EPS a record on that adjusted basis, compared to a reported EPS of $2.77. Discussing Electrical Americas, the company’s largest business, management said temporary commodity cost headwinds accounted for most of the margin decline from a year earlier, and that its pricing actions are working. Management also stated that the big deals are behind it, with no large acquisitions expected in the short term.
What Does Eaton Expect For Q4 FY2026?
Management expects higher reported earnings in Q4 FY2026, forecasting EPS of $3.28 to $3.38 for that quarter, which sits above the third quarter’s reported figure. Eaton is expected to release those results in February 2027, the month management said it will provide its forecasts for 2027.
Reported earnings per share for Q4 FY2026, measured against management’s forecast, will be the figure to watch in that February report.
