Amphenol (APH) stock is priced at 37.9 times earnings, compared with 23.0 for the S&P 500. At that valuation, buyers appear to expect the company’s growth to last. Shareholders paying that price need to know what they are buying, and that includes what management stresses during earnings calls. On the July 2026 call, executives again called Amphenol’s end-market exposure broad and balanced, as they had in April 2026. They also talked up artificial intelligence, the demand behind the company’s largest market. So how much of Amphenol now rides on AI?

Amphenol’s Management Talks Up AI And Breadth

On the July 29, 2026 call for fiscal Q2 2026, management talked up artificial intelligence. Executives said the revolution in AI had created a unique opportunity for Amphenol, citing the company’s high-speed, fiber optic, and power interconnect products.

Breadth has been a steady theme. During the fiscal Q1 2025 call on April 23, 2025, management said its end-market exposure “remains highly diversified, balanced and broad.” That discussion took place during the 2025 tariff shock, a period when Amphenol stock fell 15% from its peak to its low. At the time, executives also discussed strategies to soften the impact of those tariffs.

Three months later, on the fiscal Q2 2025 call, management reported strong organic growth across all of Amphenol’s end markets. The company used much the same language about diversified, balanced, and broad markets in April 2026. On that same April call, management also noted that the revolution in AI continued to create a unique opportunity for Amphenol. The two themes still ran side by side on the July 2026 call.

How Big Is Amphenol’s IT Datacom Business?

IT datacom, the market where Amphenol sells its AI products, is now the company’s largest. It accounted for 43% of sales in fiscal Q2 2026. Organic sales in this market grew 63% from a year earlier, excluding acquisitions. Management attributed that growth to rising demand for products used in artificial intelligence applications, alongside growth in the base IT datacom business.

The company’s segment figures reflect a similar tilt. Communications Solutions, the largest of the three reported segments, made up 52.7% of revenue in fiscal 2025, up from 41.9% in fiscal 2024. So far, the demand behind Amphenol’s AI-linked sales is still growing, and it is expanding faster than in any other market the company serves.

Are Amphenol’s Other Markets Still Growing?

Most of these other markets are still growing, though at a slower pace than IT datacom. Together, they made up 57% of sales in fiscal Q2 2026. Industrial, the second-largest market, accounted for 20% of sales. The market posted 18% organic sales growth, and management reported strong demand across the diversified industrial market. Defense sales grew 24% organically, with management describing growth across nearly all areas of that market. Automotive sales expanded 6% organically, with growth in all regions.

Communications networks is the exception, representing 11% of sales. Organic sales in this market fell 6% from a year earlier. Management attributed this decline to weaker demand from network operators and wireless equipment makers. Amphenol still sells into many markets. Outside IT datacom, however, those markets are growing at a slower pace, and one of them shrank.

Is Amphenol’s Focus On AI Reassuring For Holders?

So far, this focus reads as more reassuring than concerning, because demand is strong in most markets outside AI as well. Management noted that bookings were robust in every end market in fiscal Q2 2026, and company-wide orders were 1.23 times sales. IT datacom also covers more than AI, as management indicated the base IT datacom business grew as well.

The concern is that a larger share of the business now comes from a single market. If demand for AI equipment slowed, the slowdown would land on Amphenol’s largest and fastest-growing market, while the rest of the company has been expanding more slowly. The organic growth of Amphenol’s markets outside IT datacom is the figure to watch when the company reports in October 2026.

Does This Mean You Should Act On APH?

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.

There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
