Astera Labs (ALAB) stock dropped 19.6% on Thursday, November 5, 2026, alongside a 4.4% decline for the S&P 500. The selloff struck two days after the company reported its third-quarter results, with every company on its peer list falling by double digits that same day. So what happened between the report and Thursday’s fall?

Astera Labs Grew Fast Before Chip Stocks Sold Off

Astera Labs announced third-quarter revenue of $585 million on November 3, representing a 153.7% increase from a year earlier. Management said the ramp of its Scorpio X-Series switches led the growth. For the fourth quarter, the company expects revenue of $730 million to $750 million, a range management put at 27% above the third quarter at the midpoint. On November 4, the first trading day after the report, the shares fell 4.4%.

A steeper decline arrived on November 5, when chip and AI infrastructure stocks sold off after Democrats’ midterm victory. The new Democratic governors in Texas, Ohio and Georgia, which are all major AI data center states, are promising construction moratoriums. Astera Labs belongs to that group of stocks because it makes connectivity chips for AI data centers. This sell-off surfaced two days after the company’s November 3 call, where management said its hyperscaler customers were reporting strong revenue growth from AI services.

Did Astera Labs Fall Harder Than Other Chip Makers?

While Astera Labs moved alongside its group, the stock fell further than every company on its peer list. Declines within that group ran from 10.4% at Broadcom to 17.7% at Credo Technology. Wider measures fell less than those chip makers, with the XLK technology sector fund losing 8.0% that day and the Nasdaq Composite falling 5.5%.

One week after days like this, it’s a coin flip. One year later, 20 of the last 21 ended higher.

Where Does Astera Labs Stock Stand After The Drop?

A fall this large remains rare for Astera Labs. Over the prior year, the stock had fallen at least this much in a single session only once, on February 11, 2026.

The shares returned 0.09% over twelve months, against 9.9% for the S&P 500, yet the stock swung widely in between. Astera Labs posted its lowest close of the year at $100.27 on March 30, 2026, and reached its highest at $483.02 on June 30. Since then, the stock has given back much of that rise, losing 53.0% in the past month alone.

Even after the drop, Astera Labs still trades at 20.1 times its trailing sales, against 3.2 times for the S&P 500. The next look at its business will come when Astera Labs reports its fourth-quarter 2026 results, expected in February 2027. At that time, revenue against the range management gave on the November 3 call is the figure to watch.
