The Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to be the next big thing for the tech and telecom industries. Wireless carriers are betting on the space to drive growth, as their networks provide wide-area connectivity for a growing number of networked devices. AT&T’s (NYSE:T) IoT exposure largely stems from its M2M and connected car business. Although this business is not significantly accretive to the carrier’s financials yet, it accounted for a bulk of its customer adds over 2015 and its importance is only likely to increase going forward. Below, we provide a brief overview of the carrier’s IoT business.
