NASDAQ’s Fixed Income Volumes Remain Suppressed In September
In continuation with the downward trend for over a year, NASDAQ (NASDAQ:NDAQ) saw a 24% year on year (y-o-y) decline in September in U.S. fixed income securities traded on its platform. Increased regulatory pressures and lower yields have driven away some investors, thereby resulting in reduced liquidity. Further, European trading volumes also saw 35% dip in September and Q3. However, a 33% increase in revenue per contract for the European segment will likely reduce the negative impact of the volume decline on the exchange’s revenue.
Going forward, we’ll likely see this trend continue in the near term owing to the low yields being seen in the fixed income market.
