How Did Chinese Wireless Carriers Fare In Terms Of Subscriber Adds In February?
February proved to be a relatively good month for the three major Chinese wireless carriers. Market leader China Mobile (NYSE:CHL) added a total of 2.7 million wireless subscribers for the month, while China Telecom (NYSE:CHA) – the smallest of the three carriers – added a 1.6 million subscribers, driven by its strong 4G rollout. This is impressive considering that its total user base stands at just a quarter of China Mobile’s. While China Unicom (NYSE:CHU) posted its second straight month of subscriber adds, it’s important to note that the carrier now reports data for its mobile billing subscribers (which refers to subscribers who have revenue contribution for the month) rather than its total subscriber base.
