How Would The Commencement Of Production At The Pascua-Lama Mine Impact Barrick’s Gold Mining Operations?
Barrick Gold’s Pascua-Lama gold mining project has been held up before the completion of construction activities at the mine since 2013, due to a set of legal and regulatory challenges pertaining to alleged environmental infringements by the project. The project received a favorable ruling from Chile’s supreme court last year. Though there is no firm timeline for the completion of construction activities and the commencement of production at the mine yet, the Pascua-Lama mine is one of the world’s largest gold deposits and commencement of mining operations at the mine will positively impact the company’s gold mining operations. If production at Pascua-Lama commences by 2020, we estimate it would boost Barrick’s gold production and gold mining revenue by around 12%.
