Samsung has pulled its new tablet Galaxy Tab 7.7 from Europe’s biggest consumer electronics fair, IFA Berlin, after Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) won a second injunction blocking Samsung tablet sales in Germany. [1] Apple has argued that Samsung infringed on its patents and that the Galaxy line of smartphones and tablets “slavishly” copied the iPhone and iPad’s design, look and feel. Last month the court banned the Galaxy Tab 10.1 throughout the EU, though this injunction was later modified to apply only to Germany.
In our earlier note titled Samsung EU Tablet Ban Another Win for Apple, we discussed how Samsung’s rapid rise threatened Apple’s dominance in the tablet market though the court ruling could give Apple some breathing room. Samsung is the biggest threat to Apple in the tablet market, as it is the second largest player after Apple and the leading manufacturer running Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system.
The iPad accounts for around 12% of our $510 price estimate for Apple stock. Our price estimate is about 35% above market price.
