Venture Global (VG) stock fell 13.0% on Monday, November 2, 2026, while the S&P 500 lost 0.5%. The drop occurred on the first trading day after the company said on Sunday, November 1, that phase one of its Plaquemines LNG plant had begun commercial operations. Energy peers also declined during the same session, with NextDecade losing 9.8%. So what did the Plaquemines start mean for Venture Global, and how did the stock fare against other energy stocks that day?

What Did Venture Global Announce On November 1?

Venture Global said it had started commercial operations of phase one of Plaquemines LNG, and news reports said the plant had begun supplying customers under long-term LNG contracts.

The start was the step management had set out on its August 11, 2026 earnings call. Management said then that it expected Plaquemines to reach commercial operations in the fourth quarter, and that the project remained on schedule. Management also said it anticipated positive developments for its credit ratings with that start and with CP2 starting production.

Those ratings matter to you as a shareholder because Venture Global borrows heavily. On June 30, 2026, the company carried $42.5 billion of debt, an amount equal to 132.7% of its market value at Monday’s close, against 19.2% for the S&P 500.

Did Venture Global Fall With Other Energy Stocks?

Yes, and it fell further than any company on its peer list. The SPDR fund that tracks energy stocks fell 4.0% that Monday, the same day news reports said crude prices slid.

The companies on that peer list, Cheniere Energy, Sempra, NextDecade, Exxon Mobil and Chevron, all fell the same session, with Cheniere Energy down 5.6%. Venture Global’s own drop was more than three times the energy fund’s.

Where Venture Global Stock Stands After The Fall

The stock has not recorded a fall this large in any session over the prior 365 days. The last move of this size was a 14.2% gain on May 12, 2026.

The stock returned 51.2% over the year to November 2, against 11.8% for the S&P 500. The path was uneven: shares closed at a 12-month low of $5.92 on December 16, 2025, and at a high of $17.53 on March 27, 2026. Over the past six months, the stock lost 6.2% while the S&P 500 gained 5.3%.

At Monday’s close, you pay 1.9 times Venture Global’s sales, against 3.3 times for the S&P 500.

Venture Global is due to report its third-quarter 2026 results later in November 2026. The figure to watch is its 2026 EBITDA guidance, which management raised on the August call to $8.7 billion to $9.1 billion.
