Shares of United Parcel Service (UPS) rose 5.8% on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, outpacing a 0.6% gain for the S&P 500. The company reported its third-quarter results and raised its outlook for 2026 that day, while stocks on its peer list posted smaller gains. With UPS delivering fewer packages a day in the U.S. than a year ago, how did its quarter turn out?

UPS Beat Estimates While Shipping Fewer Packages
UPS reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.69, beating the $1.62 analysts expected. Revenue reached $22.9 billion, ahead of the $22.3 billion estimate.
Management said the smaller package count was its own choice. Within the U.S. Domestic business, average daily volume, the number of packages UPS handles each day, fell 3.3% from a year earlier. Management said this drop reflects deliberate steps the company took earlier in the year to reduce Amazon volume. Revenue in that business rose 4.5% to $14.9 billion, so UPS took in more per package.
Management also raised its revenue and operating profit expectations for the fourth quarter and lifted its full-year outlook. It now expects 2026 revenue of about $92.6 billion. A news report that day linked the stock’s rise to the earnings beat and the raised full-year outlook.
Did Other Freight Stocks Rise With UPS?
They did, by less. All companies on the Trefis peer list for UPS rose during the same session: FedEx, Old Dominion Freight Line, C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Expeditors International of Washington, and JB Hunt Transport Services. FedEx gained 2.2%, while JB Hunt Transport Services rose 3.3%, the most among them. The industrials sector fund XLI rose 0.6%, in line with the S&P 500. UPS moved in the same direction as its peers, and logged a larger gain than any of them.
Where Does UPS Stock Stand After The Rise?
A gain this large is rare for UPS. Over the prior 365 days, the stock had only one rise as large, and its latest move of this size in either direction was a 6.6% drop on July 28, 2026.
Including dividends, UPS stock returned 29.6% from October 24, 2025, compared to a 15.0% return for the S&P 500. The stock closed at $106.09, holding below its 52-week closing high of $120.00 from February 11, 2026. Its lowest close in the past 365 days was $89.22 on October 27, 2025. In the past month alone, UPS gained 12.6%, against 0.6% for the S&P 500.
UPS is expected to report its fourth-quarter results in January 2027. Its operating profit for that quarter, which management now expects at about $3.3 billion, is the measure to watch.
