S&P 500 Movers | Winners: CRWD, IT, COIN | Losers: GLW, TER, COHR
A down day for the index hid sharp divergences among its largest components.
CrowdStrike (CRWD) gained +13.9% on a day the S&P 500 returned -0.5%. The index itself saw a modest decline, but the extremes on either side were pronounced. The question for any investor is what to make of such sharp moves against a quiet backdrop. The day’s largest winners and losers show the full range of performance.

Some of today’s big moves have been building for weeks.
The lists show that certain names are not new to these extremes. Coinbase Global (COIN) appears on both the one-day and one-month winners lists. Its strength is not a one-day event; excluding today’s session, it still gained +13.9% over the other sessions this past month. On the downside, Teradyne (TER) shows similar persistence, appearing on both the one-day and one-month losers lists. Its weakness has been building, as it still lost 7.5% over the other sessions in the last month.

A large price move is a question, not an answer.
The tables above are a map of market attention, not a set of instructions. A stock’s presence on a winners or losers list is simply information. It signals that something has changed perceptions of value or risk, prompting a significant repricing. The disciplined follow-up is always the same: to check the business behind the move. A large gain or loss is the beginning of a research process, never the end of one.
Either side of these lists can be a lead worth following, with the same follow-up question: does the business back the move? For the winners, our Guidance Momentum screen tracks which companies raised their own forward numbers. For the losers, our Buy the Dip screen flags which marked-down names still have the fundamentals to recover.
Volatility Is The Cost Of Owning Stocks. Concentration Makes It A Bill
Every name on these lists made a move big enough to notice. A diversified holder reads that as noise; a concentrated holder feels it as real money. The difference is not the stock, it is the portfolio around it.
Building that portfolio is what the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio does: roughly 30 businesses with the cash generation and balance-sheet strength to absorb bad days, selected and rebalanced by rules. It has a track record of outpacing a benchmark that combines the S&P 500, the S&P MidCap 400, and the Russell 2000. Let the movers list remind you why diversification exists.
