Insmed (INSM) shares rose 15.1% on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while the S&P 500 fell 0.3%. The gain accompanied the release of Insmed’s third-quarter 2026 results. Revenue beat analysts’ estimates, but the loss per share was wider than they had expected. So what did Insmed report besides the wider loss?

Insmed Beat Sales Estimates And Raised 2026 Guidance

The company generated $524.4 million in revenue, against the $500.4 million analysts had forecast. Its loss was $0.46 a share, against the $0.38 they expected.

BRINSUPRI, the newer of Insmed’s two respiratory drugs, accounted for most of that revenue. The treatment brought in $400.1 million, up 29% from the second quarter. Management raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance for BRINSUPRI to $1.35 billion to $1.4 billion, lifting the low end by $100 million. The older drug, ARIKAYCE, generated $124.4 million, up 9% from a year earlier. Management raised its 2026 guidance for that drug as well, forecasting $460 million to $470 million.

A successful next product keeps growth from resting on an older one. Tesla shows the opposite: it drew 98% of last quarter’s deliveries from the Model 3 and Model Y and shelved its $25,000 car by April 2024. Read Trefis Big Story: How Tesla Blundered.

Insmed also spent more. Management said combined research and development and selling and administrative costs rose 40% from a year earlier. It attributed the increase to the BRINSUPRI launch and to funding its pipeline. Management also said that BRINSUPRI’s sales, together with about $1.1 billion in cash and marketable securities, give the company a clear line of sight to positive cash flow in 2027.

Did Insmed Rise With Other Health Care Stocks?

Health care stocks rose that day too, but by far less. The SPDR health care sector fund, XLV, gained 2.4% while the broader market fell, and the Nasdaq Composite index lost 1.4%. On the Trefis peer list for Insmed, United Therapeutics, Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Gilead Sciences posted gains. Gilead rose the most at 4.0%, while Liquidia and Savara fell. Insmed’s gain was more than six times the sector fund’s, so the stock moved largely on its own that day.

Where Does Insmed Stock Stand After The Jump?

A rise this large is rare for Insmed, though it has happened before. Over the prior 365 days, the stock had two sessions with a gain at least this big, the latest a 33.9% jump on August 6, 2026.

Even after Thursday, the shares were down 32.5% over the past twelve months, while the S&P 500 returned 13.3%. They closed much nearer their 52-week closing low of $91.88, set on June 10, 2026, than their high of $211.41 from December 1, 2025. Thursday’s close was $111.59. The recent path is mixed. Since September 30, the stock is down 2.2% even with Thursday’s jump. Since July 31, it is up 13.2%, less than Thursday’s gain alone. Measured from April 30, it is still down 18.1%.

Insmed next reports its fourth-quarter 2026 results, and BRINSUPRI’s revenue is the figure to watch in that report.
