Marvell Technology (MRVL) stock has returned 17.0% over the past three months, compared to 5.0% for the S&P 500. The shares still closed 22.6% below their June high on October 21. A buyer today pays for growth that is mostly still ahead: the price appears to assume Marvell’s data center sales keep climbing through fiscal 2028. So how much are buyers paying for that growth today?

How Expensive Is Marvell Stock Against Its Own Past?

At the October 21 close, Marvell traded at 23.2 times its sales over the past twelve months. That valuation sits below the 28.3 times it reached at the end of June 2026, although the June figure was the highest in ten years of quarter-end readings.

Buyers appear to be paying for one business. Management said on the August 27, 2026 call that data center sales grew 46% from a year earlier in fiscal Q2 2027, expanding faster than the company as a whole. That segment represents 79% of Marvell’s revenue and is its largest end market.

Marvell’s operating margin was 16.8% over the twelve months ended August 1, 2026, compared to 6.0% a year earlier. The highest twelve-month margin in ten years was 21.9% for the twelve months ended fiscal Q1 2019. Buyers therefore pay a multiple about 18% below its ten-year high for a margin that remains below its best.

What Growth Are Marvell Buyers Paying For?

Management guided for revenue of $3.15 billion, plus or minus 5%, for fiscal Q3 2027. Analysts expect about $3.22 billion, which sits above the midpoint of that guide but inside its range. The bar for the quarter is thus close to the company’s own number.

Growth has picked up: revenue rose 36.5% from a year earlier in fiscal Q2 2027, compared to 22.1% two quarters before. Management expects data center revenue to grow roughly 75% from a year earlier in fiscal Q3 2027.

On the August 27 call, management raised its fiscal 2028 revenue outlook to about $18 billion, up from $16.5 billion a quarter earlier, and at its October 6 Investor Day lifted it again to about $20 billion. Marvell’s $220 billion market value is about 11 times that outlook, and the price appears to assume the fiscal 2028 figure arrives on time. Marvell also expanded its agreement with a key hyperscaler, but that deal does not lift the fiscal 2028 figure further. Management said revenue from the programs it covers through fiscal 2028 is already in its custom revenue target, with the big impact arriving in fiscal 2029 and beyond.

How Marvell Stock Has Moved After Earnings Reports

Marvell is expected to report fiscal Q3 2027 results in November 2026. Recent reports have moved the stock hard in both directions, though not every time. The shares fell 12.3% in the two trading days after the August 2026 report, although revenue had beaten the midpoint of guidance. They rose 3.2% over the same span following the May 2026 report, and rose 22.4% after the March 2026 report.

A market-wide shock has brought a bigger fall over months rather than days. During the 2025 US tariff shock, Marvell stock fell 55.0% from its peak, compared to 19.0% for the S&P 500.

Today’s price is a bet on fiscal 2028, and fiscal Q3 2027 revenue offers the next look at whether that bet is on track. Revenue near the $3.15 billion guide would suggest buyers who paid up after the run arrived late. Revenue well above the $3.22 billion analysts expect, paired with a fiscal 2028 outlook raised past $20 billion, would suggest today’s buyers are early rather than late.
