Shares of Guardant Health (GH) climbed 143.8% in the year to October 23, 2026, compared with a 14.5% gain for the S&P 500. During that period, the American Cancer Society added the company’s Shield blood test for colorectal cancer to its screening guidelines, a decision announced on May 27, 2026. How much more are investors now paying for each dollar Guardant sells, and what has the company shown them?

Investors Pay Twice As Much For Guardant’s Sales
Investors paid 20.0 times Guardant’s sales at the end of September 2026, up from 9.4 times a year earlier. Revenue grew 42.7% over the twelve months to June 30, 2026, outpacing the 28.7% growth seen in the twelve months before.
On May 20, 2026, the FDA approved Guardant360 Liquid CDx, a blood test that helps doctors choose treatment for patients with advanced cancer. The stock rose 17.1% that day, a jump news reports tied to the approval. Guardant’s peers moved unevenly over the same year: Natera rose 107%, while Tempus AI fell 22%.
How Much Does Shield Add To Guardant’s Sales?
The screening business, which sells Shield, brought in $53 million in the second quarter of 2026, compared with $15 million a year earlier. Those sales accounted for about 16% of the quarter’s $335 million in revenue.
More insurers are paying for the test. On a July 30, 2026 call, management said UnitedHealth Group, the largest commercial insurer in the United States, will cover Shield for adults 45 and older. Management said the coverage decision came sooner than it expected. During the same call, management raised its 2026 screening revenue guidance to $218 million to $230 million. At the midpoint, that estimate represents about a sixth of the $1.34 billion to $1.36 billion the company expects to sell in 2026.
Guardant Still Loses As Much As A Year Ago
Guardant lost $470 million at the operating level over the twelve months to June 30, 2026, roughly in line with the $461 million it lost a year earlier. Management plans to put the extra gross profit from screening back into selling the test. The company expects 2026 operating expenses on its own adjusted measure to hit $1.08 billion to $1.1 billion, up 20% to 22%.
Management aims for company-wide cash flow breakeven by the end of 2027. Investors are paying more for each dollar of Guardant’s sales, but the losses behind those sales have not shrunk. When the company reports in November 2026, Guardant’s free cash flow burn, which stood at $69.5 million in the second quarter, will be the number to watch.
