Coinbase Global (COIN) stock fell 10.6% in the session after the company reported fiscal Q3 2026 results on October 29, compared with a 1.8% loss for the S&P 500. An October 30 news report said analyst price-target cuts, a broader sell-off in digital assets, and a reported Binance hack weighed on the shares.

Two of its peers fell too, as Robinhood Markets lost 7.2% in the same session and Bakkt lost 8.7%. The report presented two numbers pointing in opposite directions, pairing earnings per share far above analyst expectations with revenue that fell below them. So which tells a holder more about Coinbase’s business, the profit or the revenue?

Coinbase’s Revenue Says More Than Its Profit Beat

Revenue tells a holder more, because most of Coinbase’s fiscal Q3 2026 profit did not come from running the business. GAAP earnings per share reached $2.51, lifted by unrealized crypto investment gains, compared with a consensus forecast projecting a quarterly loss. Revenue, by contrast, came in at $1,216 million, falling 3.4% short of consensus.

Company filings show Coinbase earned $719 million of net income in the quarter but only $30.9 million of operating income, the profit derived from its own services. An October 29 news report said the net income benefited from bitcoin investment gains. That leaves revenue and the thin operating profit it produced as the clearer read on how the business is doing.

Has Coinbase’s Revenue Stopped Falling?

Almost. Coinbase’s quarterly revenue barely changed from the $1,220 million reported in fiscal Q2 2026, following declines in each of the three prior quarters. Management described revenue as flat from the quarter before, and that stands as the encouraging part of the report.

Compared with a year earlier, however, revenue was still down 35.0%, and Coinbase’s operating margin fell much further. The operating margin came in at 2.5% in fiscal Q3 2026, against 23.8% in fiscal Q3 2025. That margin remained better than in fiscal Q2 2026, when Coinbase ran an operating loss. One quarter of nearly steady revenue shows a business whose decline has slowed, not one that is growing again.

What Coinbase’s Management Said About Its Revenue Mix

On the October 29 call, management said newer products kept revenue level while the core trading business shrank. Spot crypto trading volume, the outright buying and selling of crypto, fell 10% from the quarter before, and growth in prediction markets offset that decline. Coinbase launched prediction markets in February 2026, and they crossed an annualized revenue pace of $200 million during the quarter.

Management also detailed how revenue is now split. Prediction markets and derivatives together made up about 25% of transaction revenue, while subscription services were roughly 49% of total net revenues. Management said the newer products are not taking business from spot trading, and that customers are putting extra money into them on top of it. Coinbase’s total revenue for fiscal Q4 2026, set beside fiscal Q3 2026, is the figure to watch, and the company is expected to report it in February 2027.
