Shares of Instacart parent Maplebear (CART) climbed 33.7% between July 24 and October 23, 2026, while the S&P 500 gained 3.1%. The company released its results for the second quarter of 2026 early in that stretch on August 6. So how much of that rise came around the report, and how much came later?

Most Of Maplebear’s Gain Came Well After Its Report

The stock recorded its biggest one-day gain of the stretch on August 7, climbing 11.4% during the first trading session after the earnings release. It gave that gain back: by September 24 the stock was up only about 2.5% from late July. Instead, most of the overall rally came in the final month. The stock returned 30.5% from September 24 to October 23, while the S&P 500 lost 0.98%. The company reported no quarterly results during that month, and its shares finished the period at $56.44, their highest close of the past year. Other stocks on Trefis’s peer list did not keep pace over the full stretch: Kroger gained 18.2%, while Casey’s General Stores fell 18.8%.

Maplebear’s Sales Growth Has Sped Up For Three Quarters

The August report extended a streak of faster sales growth. After Maplebear posted year-over-year revenue growth of 10.2% in the third quarter of 2025 and 12.3% in the fourth, the pace picked up again. Growth reached 13.6% in the first quarter of 2026 and hit 14.1% in the second.

Advertising and other revenue grew even faster, climbing 16% to $297 million in the second quarter, management said on the August 6 call. The value of orders placed through Instacart rose 14%, and management expects the same 14% growth at the midpoint of its range for the third quarter. Instacart also announced a partnership with Gopuff on September 22 and one with Dollar General the next day, adding both to the Instacart Marketplace.

Maplebear Earns About What It Did A Year Ago

Net income has stayed flat while sales grew faster, even though operating income rose to $592 million from $526 million. Maplebear earned $480 million over the twelve months to June 30, 2026, compared with $488 million a year earlier. The stock’s P/E rose on those same earnings, climbing from 21.1 at the end of September to 27.6 at the October 23 close. That multiple sits above the 22.9 times earnings at which the S&P 500 trades, so the price appears to assume that faster sales will lift profit.

Maplebear recorded a 14.8% operating margin over the past twelve months, unchanged from a year earlier. That margin will be the measure to watch when the company reports third-quarter results on November 5, 2026.

Does This Mean You Should Act On CART?

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.

There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
