Pinterest (PINS) stock trades 44.2% below its highest close of the past two years, $40.00 on February 7, 2025. At that price, buyers get a lot of cash for their money. A 50% jump depends on whether investors come to trust that cash. Over the last twelve months, that cash equals 10.2% of Pinterest’s market value, compared with 4.3% for the median S&P 500 company. The stock has done it before, rising 50% or more within the year in 5 of the last 7 calendar years. Yet a cash yield that high marks either a business on sale or one the market expects to shrink. So how solid is Pinterest’s cash?

Pinterest’s Free Cash Flow Has Grown Since 2023

Pinterest’s cash has held up and kept growing. Free cash flow remained above zero in all 13 twelve-month periods ending June 2023 to June 2026. It rose to $1,280 million in the twelve months to June 2026, from $1,047 million a year earlier and $370 million in the twelve months to June 2023. Sales grew 16.6% over the same twelve months, so the figures so far point to a business on sale rather than one that is shrinking.

That matters to anyone who owns the shares. A shareholder owns a share of the free cash the business produces, whether or not it is paid out, just as they own a share of its profit. The price tends to follow when the market recognizes that cash, and more so when the cash is growing.

Pinterest makes that cash by selling ads to marketers who want to reach its 640 million monthly active users. The company spends little to keep the business running. Over the last twelve months, capital spending took 4.0% of its cash from operations. Free cash flow came to 28.1% of revenue, against 11.9% at Meta Platforms.

Pinterest’s cash on hand still exceeds its debt. The company held $1,275 million of cash and short-term investments at June 30, 2026. This amounts to a little more than its $1,197 million of debt. That debt is new, though. It stood at $137 million a year earlier.

What Has Gone Wrong At Pinterest In 2026?

Pinterest’s costs have grown faster than its sales, and management expects growth to slow. The company posted an operating loss in fiscal Q2 2026, reporting an operating margin of -3.5%, against -0.4% in fiscal Q2 2025. Cost of revenue rose 25% in that quarter. Management attributed the increase to the full quarter of tvScientific, its connected TV ad business, and more GPU capacity.

Management guided fiscal Q3 2026 revenue growth of 13% to 15%, down from the 18% Pinterest reported for Q2. It also said Asia-based cross-border retailers hit by regulatory actions, particularly in Europe, put pressure on sales from mid-quarter. Management said the pressure was continuing into the third quarter.

The price appears to assume that slower growth and higher costs will wear down the cash. Management sees its margins differently. It raised its full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA margin expectation to about 30%, from about 29%. It also said stock-based compensation should step down starting in Q3.

When Will Pinterest Report Its Cash Again?

Pinterest is expected to report fiscal Q3 2026 results on October 29, 2026.

Pinterest has yet to show whether free cash flow keeps rising now that its quarterly operating loss has widened. It has also yet to show whether cash on hand keeps covering the debt Pinterest has added over the past year. Pinterest’s free cash flow over the trailing twelve months is the measure to watch in that report.
