One group of customers matters to Booking Holdings (BKNG) stock more than it may seem: the top members of its Genius loyalty program. Booking.com may look like a site travelers find through Google, but management says these members return more consistently and book directly more often than travelers outside Genius. Even so, the stock lost 29.0% in the year to October 28, 2026, as the S&P 500 returned 14.0%. So how many of Booking’s room nights do these members book?

Top Genius Members Book Most Of Booking’s Room Nights

Level 2 and Level 3 Genius members made up more than 30% of Booking’s active customers in the June quarter. They accounted for what management called “a high 50% share” of its room nights, and management said on the fiscal Q2 2026 call that both figures were up from a year earlier.

These members also plan their trips further in advance than travelers outside Genius, and management said it sees room to strengthen the Genius offering further. So, as of the June quarter, Booking’s most loyal customers were both a large part of its business and a growing one.

Is Booking Holdings Losing Travelers To AI Search?

Not on the whole, so far. Management said on the fiscal Q2 2026 call that direct room nights kept growing over the four quarters to June, with the direct share of consumer room nights staying in the mid-60% range.

The worry for any online travel company is that AI tools will answer travel questions themselves and send fewer travelers to booking sites. Booking does feel some of that: management said pressure on its traffic from unpaid search results continued in the June quarter, and that Google’s AI overview had probably added to it. But management also said unpaid search remains a small part of Booking’s room nights, and traffic from large language models, paid and unpaid, was still well below 1% of them.

Booking is also putting money into a tool of its own. On October 14, 2026, the company announced a planned $100 million investment in Vayo, its new company offering a personal travel agent that learns how you travel. So far, Booking’s direct business is holding steady as the way people search for travel shifts. Investors are less sure: on September 23, 2026, Booking shares fell with other travel stocks on fears that Muse, Meta’s AI agent, could let travelers bypass booking sites.

Booking Holdings Expects A Slower September Quarter

However loyal its members are, Booking still sells travel, and management guided for slower growth. The company expects room nights to rise between 3% and 5% in the September quarter, against 5% growth in the June quarter. It also expects gross bookings and revenue to rise between 4% and 6%, down from June-quarter gains of 9% and 8%. This guidance assumed that higher flight ticket prices, reduced capacity on some routes and softer long-haul demand, all tied to the Middle East conflict, would last through the third quarter.

If the top Genius members’ share of room nights started to fall, or if Booking’s direct bookings slipped as AI search grows, the loyalty argument for the stock would go. What would remain is a travel business whose growth is slowing.

Booking’s top Genius members were still gaining share as of the June quarter, and its direct bookings were holding steady. So far, that number backs the loyalty argument for the stock, but it has not kept the stock from falling over the past year. When Booking reports in November 2026, the share of room nights booked by top Genius members and the share of consumer room nights booked directly are the two figures to watch.
