AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) is building a space-based cellular broadband network that everyday smartphones can access directly. During fiscal Q2 2026, which ended June 30, the cash remaining after operating the business and paying for buildings and equipment came out negative as the company burned $719 million. It has now burned cash in all of the last four quarters. If that went on, how long do you think the cash it holds would last?

How Fast Is AST SpaceMobile Burning Cash?

During fiscal Q2 2026, AST SpaceMobile burned about double what it burned in the same quarter a year earlier. Over the latest four quarters, that cash drain was about two and a half times the amount recorded in the previous four quarters.

Fiscal quarter Sales Cash the business brought in Cash left after spending on buildings and equipment
Q1 FY2025 (ended 2025-03-31) $0.718 million -$28.5 million -$149 million
Q2 FY2025 (ended 2025-06-30) $1.16 million -$43.5 million -$354 million
Q3 FY2025 (ended 2025-09-30) $14.7 million -$64.5 million -$331 million
Q4 FY2025 (ended 2025-12-31) $54.3 million $65.0 million -$359 million
Q1 FY2026 (ended 2026-03-31) $14.7 million -$48.1 million -$327 million
Q2 FY2026 (ended 2026-06-30) $31.5 million -$97.2 million -$719 million

Each row is one fiscal quarter. A negative figure is cash going out. The last column is free cash flow.

The cash burn is growing. Sales are rising far faster from a tiny base, putting the burn at about 23 times sales in fiscal Q2 2026, compared with about 306 times a year earlier. Still, more cash is going out than a year ago, not less.

How Long Would AST SpaceMobile’s Cash Last?

AST SpaceMobile held $2.29 billion in cash and short-term investments on June 30, 2026. If the company raised no additional funds and maintained its average burn pace from the last four quarters, those reserves would cover about five quarters of operations. At the fiscal Q2 2026 pace alone, the funds would last about three. In July, after the quarter ended, the company sold $1.15 billion of convertible notes, debt that can later turn into shares, and that money is not in the current count.

At the four-quarter pace, the June cash covered about 16 months of burning, and at the fiscal Q2 2026 pace about nine months, not several years. The company also carried $2.99 billion in debt on June 30, a figure exceeding its cash on hand.

Who Has Paid For The Burn So Far?

Both shareholders and lenders have funded the deficit. AST SpaceMobile’s diluted share count rose 112% from June 2024 to June 2026, leaving each existing share with a smaller piece of the overall company.

Debt climbed as well, increasing from $212 million in June 2024 to $2.99 billion two years later. The company has therefore covered its cash burn by leaning on heavier borrowing and owners accepting a smaller equity stake, rather than relying on cash generated by the business itself.

What Has To Change At AST SpaceMobile

Management said capital spending in fiscal Q2 2026 went mainly toward launch contracts and toward materials and labor for its BlueBird satellites. The company has stated a goal of revenue approaching $1 billion in its first year of commercial service, which remains a target rather than a result. Sales grew 2,627% in fiscal Q2 2026 from a year earlier, though they started from a very small base.

AST SpaceMobile still burns cash at about 23 times its sales, and that gap is what has to change. The total cash consumed each quarter, which hit $719 million in fiscal Q2 2026, is the figure to watch when the company next reports, expected in November 2026.
