What Growth Are You Paying For In Zscaler Stock?
Zscaler (ZS) has gained 48% in three months, yet trades about 43% below its 52-week high. Near $190 it costs 9.3 times sales, against 3.2 for the S&P 500. The question is which growth that price buys: the 25% reported for fiscal 2026, or the roughly 17% guided for fiscal 2027.

Why Did Zscaler Guide Growth Below What It Just Delivered?
Fiscal 2026 revenue was $3.4 billion, up 25%. For fiscal 2027 management expects revenue growth of 16.6% to 17.5%.
Management has named the drags. Two sales leaders have departed and both roles have since been filled, but the transition is expected to run through the first half of fiscal 2027. Red Canary, the managed detection and response business Zscaler bought, saw elevated churn in fiscal 2026 that management expects to continue on renewals, and any net new annual recurring revenue (ARR) from it will now be counted inside the integrated SecOps product.
Even so, net new ARR excluding Red Canary grew 17% in fiscal Q4 2026, an acceleration management traced from 7% for all of fiscal 2025 through 10% in the first half of fiscal 2026. One analyst’s arithmetic put the net new ARR growth implied by the midpoint of the fiscal 2027 ARR guide at about 4%. On management’s account the gap between the two is the sales transition and the pace of SecOps uptake, with Red Canary’s churn already built into the guide, and that gap is what you are deciding on.
Can Zscaler Fill That Gap With New Products?
Security for AI bookings rose more than 50% sequentially in fiscal Q4 2026. Zero Trust Exchange for agents, Endpoint AI Security and the Agentic SecOps product, which launched on September 9, are all expected to scale or start contributing in the second half of fiscal 2027.
Management has not called out a Security for AI contribution in its fiscal 2027 outlook, while calling AI the largest tailwind it has ever seen. So the guide is either a floor with the AI products as upside, or fiscal 2027 depends on those products and the end of the sales transition both landing in the same half.
What Happens To Your Money If The Growth Really Is 17%?
Zscaler itself is not the risk. It loses money on its operations today, with an operating margin of -3.6% against 18.6% for the S&P 500, yet it converts 33.7% of revenue into operating cash flow against 21.8% for the market. That cash generation means a slower year does not threaten the company.
The multiple is the risk. The stock fell 58% in the 2022 inflation shock while the S&P 500 fell 24%. At that multiple it can be repriced a long way before anything in the business breaks.
The first test is fiscal Q1 2027, where management expects about 15% of the full fiscal 2027 net new ARR; fall short and the transition is probably taking longer than the guide allowed.
You are being asked to pay nearly three times the market’s multiple of sales for growth the company itself expects to slow. After a 48% run in three months you are not early either.
