Vertiv (VRT) stock rose 16.5% on October 28, 2026, the day the company reported its fiscal Q3 2026 results, while the S&P 500 gained 0.3%. The rally did not last. By the close on November 4, the shares stood 1.4% below their closing price from the day before the report, and the stock fell 12.9% on November 4 alone. Data center stocks broadly sank that day after the US midterm elections, with Eaton down 9.9% and nVent Electric down 12.7%. So what did the report actually change for Vertiv’s business?

Vertiv Raised Guidance For All Of 2026

Vertiv raised its full-year guidance alongside the results, and management said the raise covered all key metrics. The company now expects 2026 net sales of $14.5 billion to $14.9 billion. This sets a midpoint of $14.7 billion, up from $14.0 billion in its July guide. The forecast for adjusted diluted EPS also moved to a midpoint of $7.15, up from $6.70.

The quarter supporting that higher outlook was strong. Sales of $4.31 billion came in 61.2% higher than a year earlier, and management said adjusted EPS of $2.21 landed $0.41 above the midpoint of its own guidance. Vertiv’s peers saw far smaller moves during the same trading session, with Eaton rising 2.3% and nVent Electric adding 4.2%.

Is Vertiv’s Growth More Than One Strong Quarter?

Measured over twelve months, yes: growth has quickened for two consecutive years. Vertiv posted sales growth of 35.3% in the twelve months ending September 30, 2026, outpacing the 28.8% rate from the twelve months prior. That previous year was already a step up from the 13.2% growth recorded in the twelve months ending September 2024.

The third quarter did, however, include sales that belonged to the second. Management said on the October 28 call that $100 million to $150 million of delayed second-quarter revenue was recognized in the third. For the fourth quarter, Vertiv guided for net sales of about $4.41 billion at the midpoint, a figure management put at about 53% above a year earlier. Compared with the third quarter, that projection is only about $100 million higher, and management said that once the delayed revenue is set aside, the step from the third quarter to the fourth is in line with past years.

What Vertiv Will Stop Telling Investors

Vertiv stopped reporting its orders and backlog in February 2026, and this report did not change that policy. Management said third-quarter orders were more than 100% higher than a year earlier when excluding acquisitions, and stated on the same call that the company is not planning to share orders data going forward. Executives also declined to comment on 2027 until they provide guidance after fiscal Q4 2026, saying only that the order book looks good and that customers still place orders 12 to 18 months ahead.

That leaves shareholders with less to go on for a stock priced well above the broader market. Vertiv trades at 37.7 times its earnings over the last twelve months, compared with 22.8 for the S&P 500. The stock has also been swinging widely: two of its five largest one-day moves in the past year occurred on the day of the report and a week later.

The quarter gave shareholders a higher outlook for 2026, but still no regular orders figures to track demand. Vertiv’s first net sales guide for 2027, which management said it will issue after fiscal Q4 2026, is the figure to watch when the company is expected to report in February 2027.
