Shares of Unity Software (U) rose 14.9% on Thursday, November 5, 2026, on a day the S&P 500 fell 4.4%. The gain came the day Unity reported its first quarterly profit since going public and forecast faster sales growth for the fourth quarter. One peer, AppLovin, rose 31.0% during the same session. So how strong was the quarter Unity reported?

Unity Turned A Profit As Ad Sales Sped Up
Vector, Unity’s advertising tool that delivers app installs to companies that advertise with it, provided much of the quarter’s strength. In the third quarter, Vector’s revenue grew 126% from a year earlier. It also grew 40% from the second quarter, double the 20% management had guided for.
Management said Vector drove the faster growth in Unity’s main ad business, which now accounts for 69% of its revenue. Unity reported $597 million in strategic revenue, up 59% from a year earlier. That figure excludes a small portion of the ad business whose revenue Unity expects to fall to zero in 2027. Analysts had expected about $567 million in total revenue for the quarter. That forecast covers all of Unity’s revenue, a wider measure, so it does not compare directly with the $597 million. Since strategic revenue is only a part of the total, Unity’s total revenue came in above that forecast.
The quarter marked Unity’s first profitable period under standard accounting rules since the company went public. Net income reached $122 million, reversing a loss of $126 million a year earlier. Management credited part of the profit gain to lower marketing costs following the sale of its Supersonic business.
For the fourth quarter, Unity guided to strategic revenue of $683 million to $691 million. Management said that range would mean growth of 65% to 67% from a year earlier, faster than in the third quarter.
Did Unity Move With Other Technology Stocks?
No. Unity advanced while technology stocks fell hard. XLK, the SPDR fund for the technology sector, dropped 8.0% during the session, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5%. Four of the five companies on Unity’s peer list declined as well, including Roblox, down 3.4%. AppLovin was the only peer to gain, and it rose more than Unity did.

Where Does Unity Stock Stand Now?
You do not see a rise like this from Unity often. The stock had climbed at least this much in a single session twice in the prior year, most recently on August 6, 2026, when it rose 15.1%.
The latest gain adds to a strong year. Over the past 12 months, the stock returned 36.0%, compared with 9.9% for the S&P 500. Shares closed at $48.80, sitting just under their 52-week closing high of $49.47. Reaching that level took a steep climb from February 23, 2026, when the stock closed as low as $17.13. Over the past six months, Unity returned 82.6%, against a 0.8% return for the S&P 500.
Unity is expected to report its fourth-quarter results in February 2027. Vector’s fourth-quarter revenue growth over the third quarter, against management’s guide of 21% to 23%, is the number to watch.
