SLB (NYSE: SLB) stock rose 7.1% on Friday, October 23, 2026, while the S&P 500 fell 0.5%. The gain came on the day SLB reported third-quarter results, which placed adjusted earnings per share and revenue both above analysts’ estimates. Four of the company’s five peers also rose more than 4% in the same session. So what did SLB’s third quarter actually show?

SLB Beat Estimates As Middle East Sales Recovered
SLB reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.64, compared with an analysts’ estimate of $0.617. Revenue reached $9.45 billion, above the $9.27 billion analysts expected. Management said revenue grew 5% from the second quarter.
Revenue in the Middle East rose 13% from the second quarter to $1.9 billion, representing what management called a gradual recovery. Management said pretax operating margins expanded in all four of SLB’s divisions, helped by that recovery, solid growth in North America and offshore work in Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Well construction, SLB’s drilling business, grew revenue 5% from the second quarter on higher drilling activity in the Middle East, management said.
For the fourth quarter, management expects revenue of about $10 billion, a rise of 5% to 7% from the third quarter. Management said that outlook assumes Middle East revenue stays flat because tensions in the region have risen over the past several weeks.
Did SLB Rise Alone Or With Oilfield Service Stocks?
SLB moved alongside its group and rose further than every company in it. All five companies on its peer list gained that session, with NOV up 5.3% and Halliburton up 5.2%. While the broader market fell, XLE, the fund that tracks the energy sector, gained 2.6%. News reports said oil prices climbed to their highest level in five months that day as tensions in the Middle East rose.
Where Does SLB Stock Stand After Friday’s Rise?
A rise this large is uncommon for SLB. The stock had gained this much in one session only twice in the year before, most recently rising 11.0% on July 24, 2026.
Over the past year, SLB stock returned 55.8%, against 15.1% for the S&P 500. Its closes over that year ranged from $35.19 on November 20, 2025, to $60.10 on August 31, 2026. The stock closed Friday at $53.06, about 11.7% below that August high. Over the past six months, the stock lost 4.5%, against a 7.0% return for the S&P 500.
SLB is expected to report its fourth-quarter results in January 2027. Set against management’s outlook, revenue is the number to watch.
