What Is The Market Seeing In Enpro Stock?

Enpro (NPO) stock trades at 93.7 times its earnings over the past twelve months, compared with 22.8 for the S&P 500. Buyers appear to be paying for profit Enpro has yet to earn. Revenue rose 16.4% over those twelve months, but only 4.9% of that revenue ended up as net profit. So how fast would Enpro have to grow for that price merely to hold?

How Fast Enpro Would Have To Grow
At this price, Enpro would have to grow its revenue about 23.3% a year for six years just for the stock to hold its value while its P/E falls to a mature 22.8, a Trefis level that happens to match the S&P 500’s. Enpro was worth $5.88 billion at the November 4, 2026 close. At 22.8 times earnings, that value matches a net profit of $258 million in the four quarters to fiscal Q3 2032, compared with $62.8 million over the past twelve months. Assuming a steady net margin of 5.7%, Enpro would earn that profit on $4.52 billion of revenue, up from $1.29 billion today. That 5.7% margin sits above the company’s three-year average of 3.4% and above 5.2%, the highest of the readings Trefis used. Those figures exclude four higher twelve-month readings ended December 2024 to September 2025, which ran from 7.0% to 8.0%. Trefis set the 5.7% mark a quarter of the way from 4.3%, the midpoint between the average and the high, toward a 10.0% margin level for industrial companies. The six years follow from today’s P/E being 4.1 times the mature one. Trefis rules set six years for a ratio of at least 3 but below 5.
All three inputs are Trefis assumptions. The mature P/E is weighted 60% toward an 18.0 level for industrial companies, with the remainder coming from Enpro’s own average over the last twelve quarter-ends. That average was 90.1, far above 30, so the blend counts it as 30 and the mature P/E rests on that cap rather than on Enpro’s actual average.
Which Enpro Businesses Could Deliver That Growth?
The faster-growing of Enpro’s two segments is Advanced Surface Technologies, a provider of precision cleaning solutions and coatings for chip makers. Segment sales rose 25.8% in fiscal Q3 2026, and management expects growth above 25% again in the fourth quarter. It remains the smaller business, producing $412 million of revenue in fiscal 2025 against $732 million for Sealing Technologies, which serves aerospace and general industrial markets.
Across Enpro, revenue rose 22.4% in fiscal Q3 2026, marking the fastest pace of the last five quarters. Management raised its fiscal 2026 revenue guide to a range of $1.33 billion to $1.34 billion, sitting 16.8% above fiscal 2025 at the midpoint, and raised its adjusted earnings guides too. Even so, Enpro would have to grow 23.6% a year after fiscal 2026, a faster pace than management has guided for fiscal 2026. The company’s long-term aim, under its Enpro 3.0 strategy through 2030, targets mid-to-high single-digit growth before acquisitions.
Where Could Buyers Of Enpro Stock Be Wrong?
The required growth shifts sharply with time. Over a timeline of four years instead of six, Enpro would have to grow 36.8% a year; over seven, 19.6%.
Enpro’s own record falls well short of the required pace. In the five twelve-month periods to September 2026, revenue beat it only once, rising 31.7% in the year to September 2022 after a 27.2% fall. The latest twelve months marked the fastest growth since then, coming in well above the 6.4% pace of the year before.
Profit is where the arithmetic may be too strict. The past twelve months include a $32.0 million net loss in fiscal Q4 2025, a quarter in which Enpro still earned $35.7 million of operating income. In fiscal Q3 2026 alone, Enpro kept 11.5% of revenue as net profit, coming in well above the steady margin assumed.
For the stock price to hold, Enpro would have to keep growing for years at about the pace of its best recent quarter. That rate sits well beyond management’s long-term aim. If its growth drifts back toward its record before fiscal 2026, Enpro would need more time, and the stock would be a riskier holding at this price. Sales growth in Advanced Surface Technologies is the measure to watch when Enpro next reports, expected in February 2027.
