Marvell Technology (MRVL) stock fell 16.4% on Thursday, November 5, 2026, while the S&P 500 lost 4.4%. You would look first for something Marvell announced, yet the company issued no announcement, earnings report or filing on November 4 or 5. Every company on its Trefis peer list fell that day too. So what kind of selloff was it, and how much of Marvell’s business is tied to it?

Marvell Fell In A Selloff Of AI Stocks

The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5% on November 5 during a day of heavy selling in stocks tied to artificial intelligence. The Motley Fool tied that selloff to Democrats’ midterm election wins, as new governors in Texas, Ohio and Georgia promised to pause data center construction. Qualcomm, one of Marvell’s peers, had a reason of its own that day: weak smartphone chip sales.

Marvell gets most of its sales from data centers, a business that made up 79% of revenue in fiscal Q2 2027, the quarter ended August 1, 2026. On the August 27 call, management said AI demand for its products continues to rise.

How Did Marvell Compare With Other Chip Stocks?

Marvell fell along with other chip stocks that day, dropping about twice as far as the technology sector as a whole. XLK, the SPDR fund for the information technology sector, lost 8.0% the same session. Peer declines ranged from 9.3% for Nvidia to 17.3% for Advanced Micro Devices, placing Marvell’s own drop near the deep end of the group.

Fear peaks on days like this. History says the S&P 500 was higher a year later 20 of 21 times.

How Far Has Marvell Stock Fallen Since June?

Marvell closed at $133.55 on November 5, less than half its 52-week closing high of $316.43 on June 4, 2026. On the very next session, June 5, the stock dropped 16.7%, marking its only fall in the prior year as large as this one. The stock still sits well above its closing low of $73.73 on February 4, 2026. Over the past twelve months it returned 52.7%, against 9.9% for the S&P 500.

The stock lost 53.1% over the past month alone, between October 7 and November 5. That month included a 12.7% fall on November 2, the day Marvell agreed to buy Lumentum in an all-stock deal. The stock had already dropped 13.2% on October 29, after Bloomberg reported the two companies were in advanced talks. Even after these falls, you pay 12.7 times sales for the stock, against 3.2 times for the S&P 500.

Marvell is expected to report its fiscal third quarter of 2027 later in November 2026. The figure to watch is data center revenue, which management expected on the August 27, 2026 call to grow roughly 75% from a year earlier.
