Illumina’s Singapore Study Aims To Sequence Around 450,000 People

The company said the SG-INSIGHT study is expected to include around 450,000 people. As a cohort under Phase III of Singapore’s National Precision Medicine programme, the study is designed to show how genomic and health data could guide preventive healthcare. Illumina said it was selected to help bring precision medicine into everyday healthcare in Singapore. On its October 29 call, management said rest-of-world sales in clinical markets grew 14% in the third quarter, while rest-of-world research and applied sales of sequencing consumables declined 6%. Management also said it expects clinical to be a growth driver for the company for the foreseeable future.

Did Other Life Sciences Tools Companies Rise Too?

Most did, though typical gains were smaller. Within the life sciences tools and services GICS sub-industry, 18 of the 21 other companies worth $2 billion or more saw their shares rise. The median gain was 2.3%, and two climbed 5% or more. All five companies on Illumina’s peer list moved higher as well, including Bio-Rad Laboratories, which added 2.4%. Waters, one of the largest companies in the group, reported third-quarter earnings and revenue above estimates on November 3. The wider health care sector fund, XLV, fell 0.3%. Illumina moved with its industry, posting a gain more than twice the median.

Where Does Illumina Stock Stand After The Jump?

A rise like this is not rare for Illumina: the stock had 15 of them in the prior 365 days. This one followed two falls, of 18.6% on October 30, the day after its third-quarter earnings call, and 4.0% on November 2.

Even after the jump, Illumina stock remains down 18.9% since October 5, when it set its 52-week closing high of $293.69. Over the past year, the shares still returned 92.8%, against 11.9% for the S&P 500. Its lowest close during that period came on February 12 at $114.44. The stock trades at 7.9 times its sales over the last twelve months, compared with 3.2 times for the S&P 500.

Illumina is expected to report its fourth-quarter 2026 results in February 2027, and management has said it will give its 2027 guidance on that call. Clinical sales growth is the measure to watch.
