Google Stock To $1,000?

Alphabet closed at $279.84 on October 30. The day before, it fell nearly 13%, its worst day ever.
So let’s ask the bold question. Can it get to $1,000?
Start with what $1,000 means. Alphabet has about 12.3 billion shares. At $1,000, it’s worth about $12.3 trillion. Today it’s $3.4 trillion. That’s 3.6 times. Over five years, it takes about 29% a year.

Where $9 Trillion Could Come From
Where could $9 trillion of new value come from? Four places.
- Search, YouTube and subscriptions: the cash machine. About $355 billion a year in revenue today, growing about 10% to 12%. Grow 10% a year to 2031 and it’s about $570 billion. At a 40% operating margin, about $230 billion of profit.
- Google Cloud: the rocket. $30.7 billion last quarter, up 103%, with a 36% margin. It has $561 billion of signed contracts, and expects to deliver a bit over half of that within two years. That alone is about $150 billion a year, more than Cloud’s whole revenue today. Grow 35% a year to 2031 and Cloud hits about $550 billion of revenue, and about $220 billion of profit at 40%.
- Waymo: the option. Valued at $126 billion in February. More than 300 million driverless miles, 15 US cities. If robotaxis become a real business, Waymo could be worth $500 billion to $1 trillion by 2031. Or much less.
- Anthropic: the stake. Alphabet reportedly owns about 14% of it. At a $1.5 to $2 trillion IPO value, that’s $210 to $280 billion today.
Add it up. About $450 billion of operating profit in 2031, valued at 25 times, is about $11 trillion. Add Waymo and the Anthropic stake, and you’re at roughly $12 trillion. That’s $1,000 a share.
Notice what it took: Cloud growing 35% a year for five straight years, Search not shrinking, Waymo becoming a business, and Anthropic holding its value. Every piece goes right.
The Catch: The Spending
Now the catch, and it’s the reason for the crash. Alphabet spent $51.4 billion on AI infrastructure last quarter, more than its business brought in. Free cash flow was negative $9.1 billion. It plans to spend $195 to $205 billion this year, and expects significantly more in 2027. Long-term debt went from $47 billion to $125 billion in nine months. The $1,000 case needs that spending to turn into Cloud profit. If it doesn’t, the math breaks.
And search itself is the quiet risk. It still grew 12% last quarter, to $63.4 billion. But every AI chatbot answer is a question that didn’t become a Google search.
$1,000 is the everything-goes-right number, around 2031. A more grounded case, Cloud at 25% growth and Search, Waymo and the Anthropic stake at today’s levels, lands nearer $550 to $650 a share, about 2x. That’s still a fine outcome from a stock that just had its worst day ever.
The number to watch: free cash flow turning positive again. That’s when the spending starts paying.
