After covering the costs of running the business, one internet company now keeps about 26 cents of every dollar in sales. That company is GoDaddy Inc. (GDDY), and its operating margin over the twelve months to September 2026 reached a ten-year high. For a shareholder, what matters more is how far this figure sits from GoDaddy’s own normal. What would you guess its margin usually is?

How Unusual Is This For GoDaddy?

Very unusual. Across all 40 quarter ends over the last ten years, not just the yearly rows in the table below, GoDaddy’s twelve-month operating margin posted a middle value of 9.6%. That compares to 26.1% over the twelve months to September 2026. The company now keeps well over twice its usual share of sales as operating profit.

Twelve months ended Operating margin
2017-09-30 (Q3 FY2017) 4.5%
2018-09-30 (Q3 FY2018) 8.5%
2019-09-30 (Q3 FY2019) 6.7%
2020-09-30 (Q3 FY2020) -11.7%
2021-09-30 (Q3 FY2021) 9.1%
2022-09-30 (Q3 FY2022) 12.7%
2023-09-30 (Q3 FY2023) 13.7%
2024-09-30 (Q3 FY2024) 19.4%
2025-09-30 (Q3 FY2025) 22.2%
2026-09-30 (Q3 FY2026) 26.1%

Twelve months in each row, ending at the same fiscal quarter end in each year, 2017-09-30 (Q3 FY2017) to 2026-09-30 (Q3 FY2026).

GoDaddy passed a prior record of 25.2% set just one quarter earlier, during the twelve months to June 2026. The company’s margin has hit a new high at each of the last 13 quarter ends. The latest figure is not a sudden jump, but rather a record GoDaddy has been extending for three years.

What Is Behind GoDaddy’s Record Profit Margin?

During its October 29, 2026 call, management tied the rise in its own adjusted profit margin to revenue growth and continued expense discipline. GoDaddy also charged more, with its business email products growing on targeted pricing actions taken earlier in 2026. A larger share of sales now comes from Applications and Commerce, the website and email side. Management says this segment earns a higher margin than Core Platform, the domains business, on its own segment measure.

Total sales at GoDaddy have grown from the same quarter a year earlier in each of the last 40 quarters. Its free cash flow margin, the share of sales left as cash after paying for buildings and equipment, is also at a ten-year high.

Is The Latest Quarter Still Improving?

Yes, for now. Twelve-month figures move slowly and can continue setting records for a while after the underlying quarters start to slip. GoDaddy’s latest quarter shows no such decline. In the quarter to September 2026, its operating margin was 27.2%, climbing from 23.9% in the same quarter a year earlier. That single quarter sits above the twelve-month record, so the newest results are still pushing the record up.

When The Record Is Next Tested

Management expects some pressure from Airo, the website product it made its flagship in 2026. Airo carries a lower gross margin than Websites + Marketing, the product it replaces. Management said savings across the rest of the business will more than offset this lower gross margin. The company reaffirmed a target of over 33% for its adjusted margin in fiscal 2026, a forecast based on management’s own measure.

GoDaddy stock lost 12.5% in the year to November 4, 2026, while the S&P 500 returned 14.9%. The company is expected to report its fourth quarter in February 2027. This upcoming quarter will replace the corresponding one a year earlier in the twelve-month figure, so the figure to watch is whether its operating margin beats that earlier quarter’s 25.1%.
