Shareholders of General Dynamics (GD) saw one part of the company grow far more slowly than the rest in its latest fiscal year. The Technologies segment brought in 25.6% of revenue in fiscal 2025. Sales for the unit grew 2.6% that year, trailing the 13.0% pace set by the rest of the company.

Meanwhile, Marine Systems and Aerospace each grew more than 16% in fiscal 2025. That creates a catch for shareholders: a quarter of the business added little to the company’s growth, which came mostly from elsewhere. So what would the company’s owners ask the Technologies team for?

Shareholders Would Ask Technologies To Turn Orders Into Sales

Any message from the owners would start by establishing what the team means to General Dynamics. Technologies brought in $13.5 billion in fiscal 2025, compared with $39.1 billion for the other three segments combined, keeping it one of the company’s largest businesses.

The focus would then shift to the team’s own orders. Management said on the October 30 call that Technologies recorded a book-to-bill ratio, which measures new orders against sales, of “a strong 1.4x” in fiscal Q3 2026. The demand is already there.

The request would be simple: turn those orders into sales growth closer to the pace of the rest of General Dynamics. Owners would want to see those orders show up in its revenue.

Technologies Lost Ground Inside General Dynamics In 2025

Technologies accounted for 27.5% of company revenue a year earlier in fiscal 2024, meaning its share shrank in a single year. Fiscal 2025 also marked a second consecutive slow year for the unit, following sales growth of 1.6% in fiscal 2024.

The cost of that lag appears in the company’s total figures. General Dynamics posted a revenue increase of $4.9 billion in fiscal 2025, with Technologies contributing about $0.3 billion of that amount.

General Dynamics Can Carry A Slower Technologies

General Dynamics reported revenue of $14.6 billion in fiscal Q3 2026, an increase of 12.9% from a year earlier. The company retained 10.5 cents of operating profit from each dollar of those sales.

Over the twelve months to October 4, 2026, General Dynamics generated $5.78 billion of free cash flow, compared with $4.81 billion a year earlier. Management also said new orders lifted its backlog, the work it has won but not yet delivered, to a record $220 billion.

Management sees better margins ahead for Technologies itself. On the October 30 call, it said the segment’s businesses have invested in mission-ready technologies, and it expects solid margin growth over time.

Your Shares Trailed The S&P 500 Over A Year

General Dynamics stock returned 10.5% with dividends from October 31, 2025, to November 3, 2026, trailing the 11.9% return for the S&P 500. The shares performed better over the past month, gaining 13.4% from October 5 to November 3, 2026, while the S&P 500 fell 2.6%.

The stock trades at 21.7 times earnings, sitting a little below the 22.8 times multiple for the S&P 500, so you are not paying more than the market for each dollar of profit.

Revenue growth for the Technologies segment in fiscal 2026 will be the number to watch when General Dynamics reports, an event expected in January 2027.

Does This Mean You Should Act On GD?

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.

There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
