Comfort Systems USA (FIX) stock fell 15.1% on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, while the S&P 500 rose 1.6%. The company released no announcement, earnings report or filing around the move. Data center stocks fell that day after Democrats secured big wins in the U.S. midterm elections. How much does Comfort Systems depend on technology customers?

Most Of Comfort Systems’ Revenue Now Comes From Technology
Management said on its October 23 call that technology customers made up 59% of Comfort Systems’ revenue in the first nine months of 2026, up from 42% a year earlier. The company’s modular business made up 17% of revenue over the same nine months, and is also building for new customers, including a frontier lab and colocation providers.
Customers are also booking further ahead. The value of work booked and still to be done, known as backlog, reached a new high of $17.8 billion at the end of September. That is 90% more than a year earlier. Management said customers are committing earlier and for larger scopes because they know capacity like the company’s is scarce. Comfort Systems is more tied to technology spending than it was a year ago, and its backlog has grown as data center demand expands.
Did Comfort Systems Fall On Its Own?
No. Every company on its Trefis peer list fell the same session. MasTec dropped 15.4%, about as much as Comfort Systems, and APi fell 5.0%. EMCOR, Quanta Services and MYR landed in between. The industrials sector fund, XLI, slipped 1.1% in a rising market. Comfort Systems fell with its peer group, and far more than industrial stocks as a whole.
Where Does Comfort Systems Stock Stand After The Fall?
No session in the prior 365 days brought a fall this large. The drop came a session after a 7.1% gain on November 3, and it extends a steep slide: the stock has lost 40.0% since October 6, against a 1.6% fall for the S&P 500. That slide included a 9.3% fall on October 23, the session after the company reported third-quarter results. Its close of $1,091.31 is far below its 52-week closing high of $2,066.51, set on June 22, 2026. The stock remains above its 52-week closing low of $876.19, from November 20, 2025. Over the twelve months to November 4 it has returned 14.4%, against 14.9% for the S&P 500.
At 3.1 times its sales over the past twelve months, Comfort Systems is now priced close to the S&P 500, at 3.2 times. The company reports its fourth-quarter 2026 results next. Its backlog, which has risen for eight quarters in a row, is the figure to watch.
