Cisco Systems Stock Has A Second Engine The AI Story Hides
The upside case that matters now is the enterprise refresh that management calls early, not the hyperscaler AI line already inside the guide.
Cisco Systems (CSCO) stock has returned 63.9% over the past year on a story about AI networking gear, backed by $9.3 billion of hyperscaler AI infrastructure orders in fiscal 2026, roughly 4.5 times the fiscal 2025 total. The better case for the next leg sits somewhere less crowded: the enterprise campus, where management says switching, routing and wireless are refreshing at once for the first time.

The Growth That Is Left When The AI Line Comes Out
Management’s fiscal 2027 revenue guidance of $72.2 billion to $73.4 billion is framed by the company as 15% top-line growth off fiscal 2026’s $63.3 billion (12% growth), with 17% on the bottom line. Inside it sits a projected $7.5 billion of hyperscaler AI infrastructure revenue, up from the roughly $4 billion recognized in fiscal 2026 against the $9.3 billion booked as orders. Take that line out and, on the FY2026 base of $63.3 billion (up 12%), the rest of Cisco, including security and observability as well as the campus, is decelerating to roughly 10% next year, the part of the guide the AI headline obscures.
Everything In The Campus Is Refreshing At Once
Campus networking product orders grew 20% year over year in fiscal Q4 2026, with Wi-Fi 7 taking more than half of all wireless orders. That trails the 25% growth in ex-hyperscaler product orders overall, meaning networking and enterprise demand outside campus is driving more of the acceleration than campus itself. Underneath those orders sits equipment past its last day of support that cannot be patched: management puts 8,000 to 9,000 customers on Cisco IQ today, assessing what they own, and says that pipeline has built meaningfully but has not yet shown up materially in Cisco’s numbers. The last-day-of-support opening is not limited to Cisco’s own installed base, or to the campus: one US bank ordered a thousand Cisco data center smart switches in place of a rival’s networking and firewall equipment. Management frames the refresh as budget-non-optional, the way customers came to treat cybersecurity spending, though by their own account the pipeline hasn’t yet shown up materially in Cisco’s numbers.
Price Is Still In The Number, And The Orders Have To Hold
Some of the top-line growth is price rather than units: management sized its hardware price increases at about 5 points of fiscal Q4 2026 revenue growth, and it is planning a similar 4 to 5 points of impact in fiscal 2027 even as it begins to lap them. Mix costs something too, with non-GAAP gross margin at 66.3% in fiscal Q4 2026, down 210 basis points year over year, and management guiding a further slight headwind through fiscal 2027 as hardware volumes rise.
Non-GAAP operating margin went the other way, reaching 35.9% in fiscal Q4 2026, and the fiscal 2027 guidance implies about 35% across the full year, which would be a company high on an annual basis. So the test is narrow: product orders excluding hyperscalers accelerated from 19% growth in fiscal Q3 2026 to 25% in fiscal Q4, and what matters is whether that pace holds from here. The stock sits about 15% below its 52-week high after falling 8.4% over the past three months. Weigh the accelerating guide against companies whose targets keep climbing.
