What Is The Case For Waiting On CRM Stock?
Salesforce (CRM) stock has gained about 44% over the past three months, while the S&P 500 rose 3.5%. Investors entering at current levels are buying after a substantial run-up. Consequently, the valuation places greater pressure on upcoming earnings to justify recent gains. Have you already missed the move in Salesforce stock?

Priced Below The S&P 500 On Profit And Cash
No, not on profit or cash flow. Salesforce stock costs 19.3 times its profit over the last twelve months, against 22.1 times for the S&P 500. This ratio, the P/E, is the price paid for each dollar of a year’s profit. Measured against operating cash flow, Salesforce costs 11.8 times and the index 14.5 times.
The lower multiple is fair rather than cheap, because Salesforce’s profits are already at a high. Net margin, the share of revenue kept as profit, was 22% over the last twelve months. That is at or near its highest level in ten years. Three years ago, the net margin was 4.8%.
Against sales, the stock trades in the bottom tenth of its ten-year range. It is also still 14% below its 52-week high. The low sales multiple comes after three years of slower growth. Revenue grew 9.9% a year over the last three years, against 13.3% a year over five.
Salesforce Is Expected To Beat Its Quarterly Sales Forecast
Analysts expect fiscal Q3 2027 revenue of about $11.6 billion, ahead of the company’s $11.42 billion to $11.50 billion range—an expectation set before clarifying whether pending acquisitions like Contentful and Fin will contribute to the quarter or wait until full close. So the price appears to assume a beat, not just a quarter on plan.
Salesforce has more business under contract than a year ago. Contracted revenue due within twelve months reached $33.5 billion in fiscal Q2 2027, up 14% in constant currency. Revenue grew 11% on the same basis, driven by Slack and Agentforce, management said. With contracts growing faster than revenue, Salesforce has a plausible path above its own forecast.
Most of the raised full-year forecast comes from acquisitions, not from Salesforce’s own growth. Salesforce raised its fiscal 2027 revenue forecast by about $300 million in constant currency. Management said $200 million of that raise comes from the Contentful and Fin acquisitions. Those deals were still pending in August. Salesforce gets its next chance to clear the analysts’ $11.6 billion quarterly revenue target when it reports in early December.
Is Waiting For Salesforce’s December Report Worth It?
You gain from waiting if the December report disappoints. Salesforce is expected to report fiscal Q3 2027 results in early December, 2026.
Historically, waiting has carried a high opportunity cost: over its last six reports, Salesforce’s biggest post-earnings decline was just 3.9% following its May 28, 2025 release, compared to a surge of 25% after its August 26, 2026 report. While waiting limits downside if growth falters, an investor sits out the potential for another outsized post-earnings rally.
Salesforce stock has also fallen further than the index in the deeper market shocks. In the 2025 tariff shock, Salesforce stock fell 27% from peak to trough, against 19% for the S&P 500.
Fiscal Q3 2027 revenue above $11.6 billion, reported in early December, would clear the higher hurdle set by analysts, leaving buyers who waited behind the move. Conversely, because the current stock price already reflects a beat of management’s forecast, any result of $11.6 billion or below—including landing within the company’s own $11.42 billion to $11.50 billion guidance—risks disappointing the market and punishing those who bought too early.
How To Act On CRM?
Before you decide on CRM, consider a better choice. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has beaten the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with retail stock picking.
