Would You Want CRM Stock Back At The Price It Just Left?

Salesforce (CRM) trades near $250 a share, close to its 52-week high after a fast three-month run. Selling a put pays you now for agreeing to buy it much lower later, and you keep the payment either way. The catch: you only want this if you would be glad to own Salesforce at that lower price. The open part of that answer is how much its new agent products can actually be charged for.

The Trade: Generating a 10% Yield with a 30% Cushion

  • Sell a put option on CRM expiring 9/17/2027, with a strike price of $175.
  • Collect roughly $1,060 in premium per contract (each contract covers 100 shares).
  • That works out to about 6.0% annualized on the $17,500 of cash you set aside to secure the trade.
  • Park that cash in Treasury bills or a Treasury money-market fund yielding roughly 4.1%, and your total yield climbs to about 10.1%.
  • And if CRM falls below $175, you buy it at $175, an effective entry near $164.40 a share after the premium, about a 34% discount to today’s $250.10.

Two Ways This Plays Out, Both Pay You

If CRM stays above $175 through 9/17/2027, the put expires worthless and you simply keep the full $1,060 premium. That is about 6.0% annualized on the $17,500 you set aside over 366 days, while that same collateral keeps earning the ~4.1% T-bill yield on top, for the ~10.1% total above. You never buy the stock and keep the income, free to do it again.

If CRM closes below $175, you are assigned and buy 100 shares at $175. The $1,060 premium you already pocketed lowers your effective cost to about $164.40 a share, roughly a 34% discount to today’s price, though if the stock has fallen further by then you would be holding a paper loss.

So the question that matters is what you would own if the shares land in your account.

How Far Would The CRM Stock Have To Fall?

Far, though the shares were well below today’s level three months ago, and CRM traded as low as about $150 inside the past 52 weeks. It has gained more than 50% over the past three months. Stretch the window to twelve months and the gain is about 4%, against close to 16% for the S&P 500.

The entire twelve-month gain, and more, arrived in the last three months. The entire twelve-month gain, and more, arrived in the last three months. Assignment is not a bargain handed to you. It is a purchase, at a price the stock reaches only by falling.

Is Salesforce Still Growing Underneath The Agent Story?

Yes, and faster than it was. Revenue grew 11.2% over the past twelve months, against a 9.9% average over the past three years. Management says customer attrition ran near its lowest level ever in fiscal Q2 2027, which is a real answer to two quarters of predictions about the end of software.

The agent business is smaller than the noise around it. Agentforce reached $1.5 billion of annual recurring revenue in fiscal Q2 2027, on close to $44 billion of revenue over the past twelve months. That run rate is about 3.4% of a year’s sales. Management put the broader AI and data run rate near $4 billion.

Management raised fiscal 2027 revenue guidance by about $300 million in constant currency, and only $100 million of that is organic. The rest rides on Contentful and Fin, acquisitions that had not yet closed when the guidance went up.

Can Salesforce Charge For The Agents It Is Shipping?

Through more than one door. The agent product it built with Anthropic, and the headless versions that put Salesforce inside Slack and other tools, sit behind the premium editions. Customers have to upgrade to buy them, management says.

Only 5% of the knowledge workers who use its sales and service products have upgraded, on management’s own count, and those editions carry a 60% to 80% price premium. So the upgrade rate is one of the numbers to watch. If that rate climbs over the next year, agent revenue follows, and you will have been paid to wait for a discount you never needed.

If it does not, you may own a steady, profitable software company whose AI story has drained out of the price. That is the outcome to plan for. The cash-secured put yield screen shows what this same trade pays across the rest of the market. That tells you whether you are paid well or merely paid.

Before You Commit To Buying More Of One Stock, Know How Much You Already Carry

A put sale is a promise to add to a single name, and the first thing a professional checks before that promise is existing exposure, because concentration is what turns an income trade into an oversized bet.
