Salesforce (CRM) trades near $260, about 98% of its 52-week high. Its newest AI product was built with Anthropic, and customers must move to the premium editions before they can get it. Nineteen in twenty of its sales and service users have not moved. Meanwhile the net margin is the widest in five years, and management’s free-cash-flow growth guide for fiscal 2027 stands at half its earlier level.

Salesforce Is Earning More On Every Dollar Than It Has In Years

Net margin over the past twelve months is 22.0%, the highest in at least five years and well above its three-year average of 16.0%. Sliding back to that average would cut net profit by more than a quarter, with revenue unchanged. And the cost side is still growing. Management says it will add another 1,200 account executives before the end of the year to a base of 15,000.

One User In Twenty Has Taken Salesforce’s Premium Upgrade

The AI product built with Anthropic was announced alongside Salesforce’s fiscal Q2 2027 results, with general availability set for September. To buy it, management says, customers have to move to the premium editions. By its own count, only 5% of the knowledge workers using its sales and service products have made that move. Management also says it is still working out how to charge for its headless products, which deliver Salesforce inside the surfaces where teams already work.

That 5% is the upside management is selling and the risk you are carrying, in one number. Management says Salesforce gets a 60% to 80% premium when customers do upgrade. The Anthropic-built product and the headless products both sit on the far side of that upgrade, by management’s own account. An upgrade cycle with that much of the base left to convert does not finish quickly.

Salesforce Expects Cash To Grow Far Slower Than Sales

For fiscal 2027, management guides free-cash-flow growth of 4% to 5%, down from a prior guide of 9% to 10%. Revenue growth for that year is guided at 11% to 12%. Cash is expected to grow at under half the pace of sales. A risk shaped like this does not break on any particular morning. It shows up as a margin that stops widening.

And how far this stock can fall is not theoretical. Inside the past twelve months it dropped 43.3% from peak to trough, and it now sits back near the top of that range. The number to watch is that 5%. Until it moves, the price is leaning on the widest margin in five years.
