Can AppLovin Stock Fall 30%?

AppLovin (APP) stock has fallen hard before. Holders asking whether it can drop much further should watch one number: how fast the company’s revenue grows. Over the last five calendar years, the stock’s largest drop within a typical year was 36.7%, and it fell 30% or more at some point in three of those five years. Revenue growth is still high, but it has slowed over the past year, and growth is likely what buyers of the shares are paying for. So what is slowing AppLovin’s sales growth?

Why Is AppLovin’s Sales Growth Slowing?
AppLovin’s ad models improved less than usual in fiscal Q2 2026, management said. Model performance is the biggest driver of growth in gaming, which still makes up the majority of the company’s revenue. Management called it a matter of timing and said the next step-up in its models landed just after the quarter ended.
The totals show the slowdown. Revenue grew 52.8% from a year earlier in fiscal Q2 2026, down from 77.0% growth in fiscal Q2 2025. Management expects growth of 46% to 48% for fiscal Q3 2026, coming in below the quarter it had just reported. News reports on August 5 called that outlook softer than Wall Street expected.
What Slower Growth Means For AppLovin’s Business
AppLovin’s sales grow in steps because advertisers raise their budgets when its models improve and they can spend more while still meeting their return goals, management said. These steps do not arrive on a schedule. Management said on the August 5 call that, as with any research, there is no guarantee of an improvement in every three-month period, and its fiscal Q3 2026 outlook assumes no model releases beyond those already live.
The research is also getting more expensive. Higher compute for training current models and building new ones was the main reason AppLovin’s costs rose from the previous quarter, management said, and the company has built that higher cost into its outlook.
Does AppLovin’s Share Price Already Reflect Slower Growth?
The share price likely assumes at least some slowdown. AppLovin shares lost 52.2% in the twelve months to October 22, 2026, while the S&P 500 gained 15.1%. The stock now trades at 20.1 times the company’s earnings over the last twelve months, below 23.0 for the S&P 500.
Market shocks have hit the stock far harder than the index. During the 2025 tariff shock, from February to June 2025, AppLovin stock fell 56.0% from peak to trough while the S&P 500 ETF fell 19.0%.
Holders do have some comfort. Management said a pretty material improvement in its models arrived early in fiscal Q3 2026, and that nothing it saw suggested weaker demand from advertisers. AppLovin also kept 77.4% of its revenue as operating profit over the twelve months to June 2026, up from 69.6% a year earlier.
A holder should take slowing revenue growth seriously without treating it as a crash signal: growth has slowed over the past year and management expects it to slow again, while the shares already trade below the market’s multiple. A quarter in which better models lift advertisers’ budgets, the way management says they do, would ease that worry. Revenue growth against a year earlier is the number to watch when AppLovin next reports, with its fiscal Q3 2026 results.

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.
There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
