What Changed In Arista’s Story?

Shares of Arista Networks (ANET) are priced at 42.3 times earnings, compared with a 22.9 multiple for the S&P 500. A shareholder paying that premium needs to know what the business is betting on, and Arista’s focus has shifted. During its fiscal Q4 2024 call in February 2025, executives highlighted a $750 million goal for AI back-end clusters in 2025. Management no longer sets a separate goal for those clusters. That goal covered 2025, a year that is now over, and in February 2026 management said Arista exceeded its $1.5 billion AI networking goal for 2025, which included the back-end target. What is management making the case for now?

Arista Now Talks Up Networks For Many AI Chips
Management now makes the case for Arista networks that link multiple kinds of AI chips. During the fiscal Q3 2026 call on November 3, 2026, executives said the industry is shifting from a compute-centric vertical stack to a network-centric approach. The company forecasts deployments across 10 or more different types of AI chips by the end of 2027.
Those earlier calls carried a different message. On the February 2025 call, management expressed its commitment to the $750 million goal for AI back-end clusters. During the fiscal Q2 2025 call in August 2025, the company described back-end AI as entirely new revenue and new market share for Arista, which is why the goal mattered to shareholders.
Management is now detailing the transition itself. It said Arista began its AI push with 4 or 5 AI customers running NVIDIA GPUs at a time when the market was largely built on proprietary networks such as InfiniBand. In 2026, Arista has passed 100 Etherlink customers, the buyers of its AI switches.
How Big Are Arista’s Old And New AI Goals?
The old goal represented about 8% of the company’s sales. That $750 million target for 2025 compares with the $9.01 billion in revenue Arista reported for fiscal 2025.
The new target is much larger, but it covers a later year and a different measure, so the two goals are not directly comparable. Management expects its AI fabrics business, the networks it sells for AI, to double to about $7 billion in 2027, marking the fastest growth of any part of Arista. That figure sits within a 2027 revenue outlook of about $18.5 billion, so executives expect AI fabrics to make up a large portion of what Arista sells.
Arista’s reported figures already show growth speeding up. Revenue growth has climbed in every quarter since fiscal Q4 2025, rising from 28.9% then to 58.5% in fiscal Q3 2026. Management credited this strength to both AI and enterprise customers.
Should Arista Holders Find The Shift Reassuring?
Based on the figures, the shift reads as more reassuring than concerning, because Arista has grown faster while widening its operating margin. The company posted an operating margin of 44.9% in fiscal Q3 2026, compared with 42.4% in fiscal Q3 2025.
Two concerns remain. The AI fabrics figure is a target management sets rather than a reported line item. Arista instead splits its reported revenue into Product and Service, with Product making up 84.1% of fiscal 2025 revenue. So a shareholder can follow progress on AI only through management’s updates on earnings calls.
Arista is also buying ahead of expected demand. Purchase commitments reached $11.4 billion at the end of fiscal Q3 2026, up from $9.7 billion at the close of fiscal Q2 2026. Management said those commitments mostly cover chips for new products and AI deployments.
Arista is expected to report its fiscal Q4 2026 results in February 2027, and management’s update on AI fabrics against its 2027 target is the number to watch.
Riding the AI boom? The risk of a crash is the other story in play. Invest so you’re fine either way.
