Arista’s Price Assumes The Parts Arrive On Time

Consensus cuts the stock’s earnings multiple by about a third within two years, and what decides whether that happens is component supply rather than customer demand.

Arista Networks (ANET) builds the Ethernet fabrics that connect AI clusters, and after a run of nearly 50% over the past year, its stock carries an earnings multiple that looks like the future is already paid for. On the earnings analysts expect two years out, the same price buys a different number.

The Multiple Falls By A Third While The Price Stands Still

On the trailing twelve months of adjusted earnings, meaning normalized income with stock-based compensation added back, Arista trades at about 57.2 times, a third above where 2027 estimates put it. Analysts’ 2026 estimates put that price at about 48.2 times and their 2027 estimates at about 38.2 times. The trailing and forward figures are both adjusted, though not identically, so part of the fall is basis rather than earnings.

Consensus Is Marking Down Margins More Than Demand

Consensus has earnings growing about 26.2% a year from 2026 to 2027. Revenue is expected to grow faster over the same span, about 34.6% a year, so the forecast quietly assumes some margin give-back. The revenue line is not where the caution sits: that 34.6% runs above the 32.6% Arista delivered over the past twelve months, if under the 37.7% year-over-year growth it posted in fiscal Q2 2026. Nor is the give-back baseless, with gross margin in fiscal Q2 2026 at 63.4%, down from 65.6% a year earlier on end-customer mix, though up from 62.4% in fiscal Q1 2026. Yet at the operating line, management went the other way, lifting its fiscal 2026 non-GAAP operating margin target to a range of 48% to 49%.

Guidance Is Set By What Arista Can Get, Not What It Can Sell

Management has raised its fiscal 2026 revenue outlook for the third time, to about $12.6 billion, a projected 40% annual growth rate. The cap is not orders: the CFO says the company guides to the supply it is confident of securing, and management expects the industry-wide shortage to last until 2028. Multiyear component commitments are now roughly $9.7 billion, almost triple the level a year ago; memory is secured for 2026 with visibility into 2027 across DDR5 and NAND; a liquid cooling supply chain is in place; and three contract manufacturers and three distribution facilities span the U.S., Asia and Mexico. Arista ended fiscal Q2 2026 with about $13.3 billion of cash and marketable securities. Balance-sheet strength of that kind is a quality the Trefis High Quality Portfolio favors.

What 38 Times Already Assumes

If the share price never moves, 2027’s expected earnings leave the stock at 38.2 times: today’s buyer would not have overpaid, but would have gained nothing. A holder is rewarded only if the market pays more than 38.2 times those earnings. Let the multiple settle near 43.2 times the 2027 estimate, roughly halfway between the 2026 multiple of 48.2 times and the 38.2 times floor, and the stock is worth about $228. The 2027 estimate is not settled: the 17 analysts covering it span $4.55 to $5.76 a share. In past market shocks, the stock has also fallen as much as 38% from peak to trough. With the give-back inside the forecast, what is left to watch is whether guidance keeps climbing.

What A Stock Is Worth And How Much To Own Are Different Questions
