Did You Already Pay For NVIDIA’s Bigger Guide?
NVIDIA (NVDA) trades at $225.73, about 4% below its 52-week high after a 35% total return over the past twelve months. Management has just told the market to expect a much larger revenue quarter, and the easy read is that a step that size cannot already be in the price. But the stock’s reaction suggests investors have already absorbed much of the news. The question is how much of the revenue step translates into value for shareholders.

What NVIDIA Put On The Table, And What You Paid For It
For fiscal Q3 2027 the company guided revenue to $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. That is 18.7% above the $91.0 billion it had guided for fiscal Q2 2027, a $17.0 billion step for that one quarter against trailing twelve-month revenue of $302.97 billion. Nothing was revised here. It is a first outlook for a new quarter, set beside the guide for the quarter before.
Across the release, from the $213.05 close before it, to the close after, the stock gained 7.0%, about $14.93 a share. That move paid for the fiscal Q2 2027 results as well as the new guide, so it is not a clean price on the guidance alone.
The $17.0 billion revenue step equates to roughly $0.45 a share at a 63.7% net margin, versus the $14.93 per-share move in the stock. That does not prove the guidance is fully priced in, but it shows why the headline revenue increase alone is not enough to establish upside.
Why NVIDIA’s Own Boom Is Raising Its Costs
The squeeze comes from the buildout that fills the order book. Management says pricing conditions in memory are extreme, that the increases have run past what it expected, and that the scarcity is driven in large part by the AI build-out itself. The customers bidding for its systems are bidding up what it pays its memory suppliers.
So the gross margin for fiscal Q3 2027 was guided 0.9 percentage points below the guide given for fiscal Q2 2027. Management expects margin to bottom at 71% to 72% in fiscal Q4 2027 before settling at 72% to 73% in fiscal 2028, and it guided operating expenses higher in the same release. The volume is guided; the cost of it has just been reset.
What You Actually Own Going Into Fiscal 2028
Management also put a full year on the table for the first time, guiding revenue to grow approximately 70% in fiscal 2028 on what it calls a supply-constrained outlook. That is a far bigger statement than one quarter’s step.
Two things carry it. Vera Rubin is shipping in production and is expected to be about 20% of data center revenue in fiscal Q3 2027. ACIE, the sovereign, NeoCloud and enterprise side of the data center business, grew 138% year over year to $40 billion in fiscal Q2 2027. Neither points to a demand problem, and memory is the supply that now sets the margin.
So you own a volume number management says it can already supply; against a cost line it has told you gets worse before it improves. Before adding, it is worth seeing how other stocks have actually traded through their own earnings releases, because a step already in the price pays you nothing.
